COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Bottled, 330ml from LeClerc, Vouziers, France. Copper to brown with off white head. Rich and quite fruity, there is a good depth to this, quite sweet with a big hint of sticky fig and vanilla. There is a blending in of alcohol and a wine note, some raisin. A very pleasant beer.

Aroma of malt and citrus and clove spice. Deep amber color with a fantastic white head. Starts with spicy sweetness. Substantial mouthfeel. Clove seems to be in the finish. Any hop is lost in the malt and spice. However, there does seem to be a bitter effect on the sides of the tongue.

(34.1cl bottle) Hazy, dark amber colour with a big, off-white foamy head. Sweet, candied, slightly yeasty and fruity (dates, raisins) aroma, slightly toasted with zesty and herbal spice. Sweet, slightly sugary flavour, full bodied with a well-carbonated mouthfeel. Slightly yeasty, minimal-toasty and fruity taste with traces of caramel; moderately fruity and slightly toasty finish with residual malty sweetness and light spicy notes. Good one.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2007 A Sim Rate (bottled from Quinn’s): Aroma is so complex. Obvious orange and icing sugar. Smells just like those oranges you prod with cloves at christmas. i can certainly smell morello cherries in there. Flavour is similar, slightly bitter at first but followed promptly by cherries. Almost fake cherries like Vicks Cough Drops. Murky brown looks.

Mario D’Eer considers it as a Weizenbock and I can understand it - amber-brown colour, fine head, complex spicy, yeasty aroma and flavour, nutmeg, sweet, alcohol, honeyish and bitter, long aftertaste - a beautiful beer

Poured a murky, reddish-brown with a large tan head. Aromas of plums, raisins, malts and hops. Lively carbonation and sweet with a light bitter kick. Tastes of raisins and plums. Alcohol content well hidden.

Bottle. Part of large bottle three pack. Reddish amber color with medium reddish head. Aroma was as complex as you would expect with this group. Flavor was full with hops, and spices. Full body with long finish with medium alcohol bite. Good brew.

UPDATED: SEP 24, 2005 Dark amber with a fine-grained white head. Citrus and spices, especially coriander and clove are obvious in the nose, as well as a bready and yeasty aroma. Flavour of raisin/dates and spices. Strong clove and bready yeast flavours. As the beer warms the coriander character becomes more apparent and a bit of alcoholic heat starts to sneak in. Similar to other Unibroue Belgian Strong Ales but still awesome.
