COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Beautiful brown body with a fluffy head. Aroma is malty, sweet, belgian sugar, plums, spice and yeast. Fruity, banana and cloves too. Flavor is sweet with mellow spice, banana, plum and brown sugar. This is on draft, have had many times in a bottle but this is just awesome. So smooth and delicious.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a slightly hazy reddish-brown with a small, foamy, white head. Boozy fruit, cherries, cinnamon, clove, and mace make up the nose. High carbonation with a light mouthfeel. It has a nice dryness to it. Clove, mace, slight dustiness, an herbal note, oak, and light stone fruit make up the palate. A long, spicy finish. A very interesting brew! You would think all of the spice notes would ruin the beer, but this one pulls it off. A wee bit on the spiced side for me, but still a very good brew.

12 oz. bottle. pours a deep red / light brown with a 1 cm white head which quickly disappears. has all the qualities of an excellent belgian strong ale. nice fruity aromas, mainly raisins. carbonated and spicy on the palate with a wonderful finish. does not differentiate itself that much from other quality belgian strong ales.... although it is highly recommended.

Bottle from brad. Pours a hazy dark orange almost caramel color. Fizzy white head dissipates at a standard rate. Nose is spicy cinnamon and fermented fruit. Taste is fizzy which perks the palate and contains some light sour fruit and spices.

12oz bottle from Total Wine (Tampa, FL). Rated on 3/13/08. Pours a dark reddish-brown with two finger tan head that settles slowly and laces the glass. Aroma is sweet, malty, barley, notes of alcohol in the nose. Flavor is sweet, malty, wheat, barley, slight bitterness. Medium-bodied with reasonable carbonation. Nice beer.

Same bad aftertaste as other Unibroue beers I’ve had, but on a slightly better beer.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2003 This beer kept a nicer head than the La Fin Du Monde, brown in color with a little bit of an amber-ish tint, full bodied, the flavors included an undertone of sour veggies just like the La Fin Du Monde, spicy & yeasty flavors, fruity & malty aftertaste, these brews from Unibroue I guess just aren"t my bag

Bottle 33. Quite sweet beer in Belgian style, aroma well balanced as the we donnot taste so much the alcool. Deep amber colour with a very nice head and a medium carbonation. Citrus smell is present (from yest ?) less malt flavour. Good abey beer.
