COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Large long-lasting head covering a dark, cloudy amber body. Doesn’t have the aged palate of some of its Belgian counterparts but does have a nice aroma and a slight candi-sugar sweetness. One of the better North American Belgian ales.

Number 1001...a 1.5 yr old Maudite from Loblaws in LaSalle. Hazy brown ale with a sweet funky aroma of yeast, plums and alcohol. In mouth, wow, always the classic! Sweet malt with prunes and alcohol warmth, some vanilla notes and a smooth finish, no edges! Very stylish....Vive la Maudite!

Test vom 17.6.2006, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 6,12,11,11,15,11 - 10,85

Clear foxy-amber beer; medium, fine and yellowish head. Strange chlorine-like smell, underneath cookies malt, some alcohol. Again signs of oxydation, even when the beer is less than 2 years old. Quite malty overall. FInishes quite sweet, with again a bit of alcohol and sweet bread or pastry. Warming up, a sourish note develops. Rather well-bodied, smooth, yet with some sparkling carbonation. It’s a nice beer in my experience, but, unless it has been standing under the spotlights, a bir of 8% ABV ought not to oxydize within 2 years.

Bottled. A brown coloured beer with lots of candy sugar and fruity maltiness. There is some wine like alcohol in the nose and a typical Belgian taste.

Clear amber with a huge head. Alcoholic smell with peaches and lemons. Silky smooth but very harsh and alcoholic, feels musty. Palate is left syrupy.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2006 Flowing rivulets of burnt chocolate, bananas in caramel and mixed nuts...Your palate, empassioned, becomes the Louvre hosting a flower exposition, as a plethora of virtuous and mysterious petals remain forever...One of the rare beers that has actually become better i.m.o...

A 10-year-old 1996 bottle has not aged gracefully at all...Its aroma is now feeble and oxidized, and flavors are of stale fruitiness and withered coriander...Nowhere near a 10-year-old Trois Pistoles...
