COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Pours with a large, off-white, quickly diminishing, head that still has good retention. Hazy brown-gold body. Aroma is candi sugar, cardoman, clove, apples and pepper. Taste is yeast, spicey, and sweet. Dry mouthfeel with very lively carbonation.

Red/brown with an off-white head. Aromas are bready and yeasty with spices and berries. Flavours are dry and fruity with banana and spices. Very nice.

A nice strong Belgian style Brownish in color. Pours well in a snifter. Definite hints of spice and apricots. One of the best beers to come out of Canada in quite some time.

6 Slight tomato aroma, maybe I left this too long?
4 Deep honey, small persistent head.
7 Lovely rich retronasals, a touch yeasty and definitely /sur lis/, Quite like a fullers vintage, but more hoppy, more woody, fuller, and generally more punchy. However, it lacks the sophistication of a FV
4 Very full palate, a touch yeasty. Finish is very full and rich, almost a bit sticky. Finish carries all those ideas to their natural conclusion. Big and sticky and heavy. Yet strangely not too stick, nor too heavy.
15 I am so glad I left this to age, the heaviness of a high alcohol beer has been mellowed in a very classy way.

UPDATED: OCT 21, 2003 From the 750ml bottle (which seemed a little more stable) Amber/Copper color. Herbal nose of yeasts. It simply tastes good: cloves, pepper, yeasts, hops, malt, fruits and what not. I couldn't find any component taking the top in this delicious rumble that develops a small, but pleasant bitterness as it, not without regrets, leave your throat.

Tad sour like some darks. Pepper, strong biting carbonation, much better on tap than in bottle. In bottle, more of Unibroue yeast. Medium to watery mouthfeel. Spice with some malt aftertaste, similar to a cola.

Pours cloudy amber with aromas of malt, fruit, candi sugar, hops, and florals. Finishes malty-sweet and very strong, with overtones of plums, pears, and spices.
