COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Deep bronze clouded hue with a large foamy of white head. Strong orange and spicey nose. Malty taste with dry slightly bitter finish. Expected a stronger flavour although it is very pleasant indeed and not at all over powering bearing in mind the alcohol content.

Shared BOTTLE 341 ml. Dark red, big light beige with low retention. Baked apples with hint of nuts, sugar and alcohol. A bit straight forward. Sugar, cooked fruit, some heat, no hops. Kinda simplistic - sugar and booze.

Head dissipates really quickly. Maple brown appearance. Only detect malty aromas. Sparkly, light mouth feel. Molasses flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Very attractive dark caramel brown with persistent head and light lacing. Aroma is caramel with some banana. Taste is sweet and malty, with notes of banana, gingerbread, and light cherry. Finish is earthy and mildly boozy. Quite nice overall.

341ml bottle. Poured an average size foamy, bubbly head and has a dark hazy amber colour. Thin layer of head sticks around till the end. Has the usual yeasty Unibroue aromas, very much citrusy. Flavours of darker malts and hops. Very tarty. Dry fruits. Hint of caramel. Not as strong as expected, and pretty smooth for a higher abv brew. But then almost to be expected coming from Unibroue. Great tasting, smooth and strong beer. Good stuff.
