COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

12 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured cloudy brown with a nice off white head, nice lacing. Aroma of fruits, malts and some yeast/grain. Taste is also very fruity, sweet and some spices. Nice beer to enjoy slowly, very drinkable, very good.

Medium copper colour, with a light white head. Aromas are apples, red fruit peels, bit of bread, bit of brewed coffee. Crisp palate, with a medium to light mouthfeel. More fruity tastes. And some spicey nuttiness. Overall, this is a good solid brew, but I was expecting more (haven’t had it in years and I was drunk with a dead nose and palate that time, so this is my first real review of it). Ok, but I wouldn’t run out and buy more.

Bottle and then amber foggy ale with medium tan head. Aroma of week old brown banana, rising bread and a hint of cover. Taste of gum, orange bringing some sweetness and malt finish. Nice bubbly and short sweet finish.

Pours clear pale to medium amber with one finger of pillowy off-white head diminishing gradually to a thin skim, no lacing. (4/5) Nose is banana and cloves, doughy yeast, stone fruit, caramel malt. (8/10) Taste is moderate sweet, mild bitter. (8/10) Medium body, lively carbonation, off-dry lingering spicy finish with a moderate alcohol warming. (4/5) Not a lot to say about this - a true classic, and one of the best Belgians outside of Belgium. Smooth and drinkable despite the higher ABV, which manifests as a pleasant warming. (16/20)

Pour is amber with a persistent off-white cap. Nose is lots of doughy Belgian yeast, cloves, apricots, plums, caramel. Taste is sweet but surprisingly dry. Lots of yeast, nice, but not overpowering, alcohol warmth. Nice quasi-micro.

Bottle. Pours hazy meduim brown with small head. Aroma of candied malts and subtle stone fruit. Taste of light caramel a bit of grain and a slight bitterness. Very well done.

One of the best triple fermented brews out there. Balanced complex and not over sweet.

Nose is sweet fruit cinnamon, honey, orange juice, banana and Belgian yeast. Lively carbonation. Taste follows the nose, somewhat muted. Bready, grainy fruit. Booze is well hidden. Not a big fan of this one.

The artwork/story of the flying canoe is great but I’m one of the minority that feels sick after tasting this. Sour, vegetable, Belgian yeast gone wild. I now literally run away at the sight of this beer. Oh no! There’s a photo of the bottle!! (footsteps pounding rapidly into the distance, glass breaking, dogs barking...)

Couleur ambrée avec un col respectable. Aromes de fruits rouges, épices, céréales, alcool, noix. Complexes, mais gout générique de unibroue... Correct pour moi....
