COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

On draft at my house with Stegosaurus. damn, this beer is so smooth, one of my favorites, beautiful head great smell, awesome taste. Perfect example of a belgian strong ale, those damn Canadiens got the belgian styles down.

UPDATED: NOV 15, 2009 Sweet, but a little spicy. Complex and well balanced. Is dark brown with a subtle sweet aroma and beautiful finish. This is what I would like to be served in a log cabin.

UPDATED: DEC 18, 2011 One of my favourites from Unibroue. Such a unique and flavourful brew. Bready yeast and ripe fruit aromas. Love the balance of hop spice and malt depth. One of the first beers that made me truly start to appreciate the uniqueness of Belgian style brews.

A- Pours a nice cloudy amber orange with a large white head of 3 fingers which settles down a bit. Lacing stays throughout. S- Smells really nice, exactly what you would expect of this style. Wheat, yeast, and the banana and light spiciness. I also detected a smoky burnt wood aroma. Aromas combine together very well in a balanced mix. T- Tastes similar to how it smells, but definitely not as bold in flavor as I would have expected. Very nice balance again overall. D- Goes down easy with a light body, yet with plenty of flavor. Carbonation is light. Overall, I would definitely drink another of these.

Has the consistancy of a really amplified Amber Ale, only much better. A great, basic ale.

Bottle shared with northropfrye. Toasted cloudy caramel colour. It wakes up my tastebuds with floral citrus.
