COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

UPDATED: SEP 28, 2005 Damn...This is my 100th beer rating. This is one wicked brew. When I poured it out and took a first whiff, I was overwhelmed by all of the different aspects of the aroma: Apples, grapes(as in wine), almost a nutmeggy spicy type note. The beer travelled down very well. Flavor loses a point because the alcoholic taste was ever present. Appearance and texture were outstanding. Very pleased to have been fortunate to find this hidden in the dark recesses of the beer cooler in the liquor store!

I enjoyed a four pack with funk and while it does cost a dick and a ball the taste makes it all worthwhile. A great beer that I really can’t say enough good things about!

Bottled. Cloudy ruby colour, creamy head. Yeasty fruit aroma with a hint of red berries. Rather sweet with beautifully soft texture. Rich and malty with toffee and crystalized sugar. Mild, drier finish. A thoroughly balanced beer.

What a wild flavor. Kind of citrusy with a sweet aftertaste. Smooth but not a guzzler. Definitely another fine product from Unibroue. ;)

Very good Canadian beer. Very complex flavour that only the experienced beer drinker would probably appreciate. Very Fruity. I've tried this beer as well as "La Fin Du Monde" by Unibroue, and both rank very highly with me.

One of the first Belgian Ales I ever had and certainly one of the best.

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2006 Flowing rivulets of burnt chocolate, bananas in caramel and mixed nuts...Your palate, empassioned, becomes the Louvre hosting a flower exposition, as a plethora of virtuous and mysterious petals remain forever...One of the rare beers that has actually become better i.m.o...

A 10-year-old 1996 bottle has not aged gracefully at all...Its aroma is now feeble and oxidized, and flavors are of stale fruitiness and withered coriander...Nowhere near a 10-year-old Trois Pistoles...
