COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Poured a dark caramel color with a bit of a haze and little and quick dissipating head. Aroma and Taste are both fruity. Plums and raisins perhaps. Taste is also yeasty. Mouthfeel is good, maybe a tad thinner than expected. I was somewhat disappointed in this one, expected more.

Bottle. Aroma of yeasty esters that present themselves in an odd Fruity Pebbles way. Caramel and toffee behind, but the yeast component dominates. Pours a dark ruby/copper with a thin skin of an off white head. Plenty of yeast on the palate with green pepper, dry crass and slightly soured citrus fruit. Medium bodied with a ton of carbonation leading to a slightly vinous finish. Thanks Matt!

Disappointed...kinda boring in my opinion, especially after having the trois pistoles. Worth a try, but don’t expect too much.

Mahogany pour no head, but his is on tap. Can’t get much aroma in here. Tate is more pike the Belgian golden ales I have had, such as pranqster. Good brew l, I just expected more body from a Belgium dark.

12-oz bottle. Yeasty aroma with notes of citrus, apricot, bread, and clove. Interesting appearance, cloudy amber body with a tall, smooth, off-white head. Taste is lightly sweet with a hint of sourness and just a tiny bit of salt and paper napkin. Medium body with an oily texture. Average carbonation. Long finish. This is a beer that wants company. (Can’t blame the damned for that, now can we?)

Dark cloudy dull copper color with very tall bubbly head and good retention. Very little lacing; Very fruity earthy aroma; Taste is quite sweet and complex with light bitterness - good balance; Medium body with oily texture and soft carbonation; a touch of alcohol; long mild aftertaste slightly dry; nice beer and can easily drink an entire 750ml bottle.
