COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

750ml Bottle: Cloudy brown-amber under a medium off-white soapy head. Yeasty, ripe- fruity, earthy aroma with faint notes of chocolate and dust. Flavours of raisins, dried figs, sweet malts, candy sugar and spice. Dry alcoholic finish. Stylistically elusive but exquisitely complex and robust.

Had a 750 ml bottle and man was it good. The aroma is a favorite and the taste, especially at the end is smooth and fulfilling. I liked drinking it from a tumbler.

Corked bomber poured hazy reddish brown - the color of wood stain - with a generous three finger head that lasted a long time and left nice lacing. Bread and yeast are evident in the smell, which included some spice and fruit. I’m not usually impressed by the way a beer smells, but these aromas seemed complex and well balanced. Malt and fruit up front - with the fruit better defined as apples and cherries. A bit of black pepper and tartness (but not sour)as well, and mild hop bitterness to round it out. Medium bodied, lively carbonation and a very pleasant aftertaste. Great beer.

Found this one a thick amber/ orange color, with a beige tinted head. It smells sweet with a hint of tartness. The taste is deep and darts all over. Fruitier than I expected with sugar highlights and it saves the alcohol burn for the end.

Maudite pours a rich brown with a nice size head. The nose is fruity, spicy, and complex. Flavor is of dark fruit ,spice, light alcohol, and gets better as it gets to a cool and not cold temperature. The body is full with a nice effervescence. Great ale!!

Nice!! Aromas of candied mix fruits like peach, citrus and apricot, and baking allspice. Appearance a cloudy dark or burnt reddish-orange, after an initial 2 finger head it settles quickly to a layer of fine effervesence that lingers till the end. Flavor is as complete as the aroma with cintered malts, candied fruits and fine spices. Alchohol is well hidden and not a factor. Palate is light and oil coast and lingers, sticks in the back of the tongue with slight clinginess. Overall a very nice brew. will revisit again...

My fav of the Unibroue - tastes way better in Canada but still damned good in the States. Definately has that fruity/yeasty taste, similar to Fin du Monde but this has a bit more kick. Yum!
