COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

A caramel color with a huge head. The flavor of this beer is smooth and spicey. It is very sweet and balanced, a very delightful drink. Christmas with family and this ale may be worth risking becoming one of the Maudite!

Poured into a snifter. The beer pours a beautiful rich amber/mahogany color with a nice white head that is a little more than half an inch to begin with, and recedes very slowly. Maudite has a fall fruit aroma to me, apples, pears, and figs, mixed with spices, such as, clove, cinnamon, etc. A lot of flavor in this beer. I get a lot of apple and clove, with a hint of caramel. The strong alcohol is also present. Good amount of spice in the finish. Good clean mouthfeel, and very refreshing. I honestly forgot just how good this beer is. Great anytime beer, but I would choose it in the fall or winter.

One of my all-time favourites. As a general rule I try to avoid bottles that are less than a year old. I find they tend to have a weak taste and need at least three years to really mature. Great red/brown colour, rich head and a marvelous taste.

Another great Unibroue brew. A very malty aroma pushes its way out of this brew. Appearance is dark brown with a thick thick head. Mouthfeel is so smooth for a malted brew. Flavor is very malty with a warm aftertaste.

750mL corked and caged 2005. Pours a hazy copper orange with a rocky, micro-bubble off-white head. Smells of clove, yeast, and dark-pitted fruits. Lots of complex malts and spice in the taste. Overwhelming yeasty bitter/sour bite that owns my soul. Bread and dark fruits, too. Jesus Christo, this jam is complex. The carbonation is perfectly fizzy. I could drink a ton of this stuff. A drink of gods.

750ml bottle. Pours a nice mahogany colour into my sniffer, with a thick head that desists faster than I thought it would, for a Belgian. The aroma is spicy, with the trademark Unibroue yeast, some wheat, and I guess some hints of dark fruits, surprisingly no alcohol. The taste is complex, a little sour dough, mixed in with a lot of fruity esters, spice, with some soothing malts, almost no hint at all of the ABV which is great. The aftertaste is mostly fruity, as this is a very ester-taste driven beer. This is a World-Class brew for sure, and I’m glad my palate has grown enough at this point that I can enjoy these beers now.

On tap and in the bottle. Deep amber/ red pour, bursting with fragrant Belgian floral aromas. Rich, red ale flavors like dark raspberries and cherry blossoms, with the depth of a Belgian strong. very well balanced. Great brew from a great brewer. This has been a favorite of mine for a few years now.
