Unibroue Maudite
12 oz bottle
Best before 09/08, damned 01/07
Moderate pour in a tulip glass
Poured a murky orange brown with a huge off white mostly lasting head with fair lacing.
Smelt of moderate caramel, dark bread, spices, raisins, bananas, dates.
Taste was upfront strong bitter sweet and sour, like drinking rotten raisin juice, if such a thing were to exist, followed by a harsh bitter sweaty and rustic yeastiness with hints of toasted dark bread, light sweet caramel, raisins and spices on a long finish. Palate was light to medium bodied, watery to a dry finish, fizzy and strongly astringent.
Overall, this is a fine smelling brew and the taste is exceptionally interesting, awkward and outlandish. I think I think I like it... I think.

Pours a dark and cloudy ruby brown with a light tan head that doesn’t stick around too long. Nose is very strong with yeast. Flavor is a little lighter than I would have expected. Flavor is touched with mature fruit with a heavy sweet tone and a lot of influence by yeast. Feel is decent. High level of carbonation, but not overdone I think. Definitely drinkable. It’s Unibroue...what do you expect?
4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 andyhite (308) - Murfreesboro, Tennessee, USA - FEB 2, 2007
i once had a drumset this color. 12oz. thousands of tiny off white bubbles constitue the head; moderate dissipation. deep amber appearance. aromas strong of yeast; mild of fruits - notable lemon, other citrus, and even a bit of birch; hints of light white bread and refreshing malt(s). ’tis already complex, just from the aromas. while it is a menage a trios of balance between yeast, malt, and hops - it still has a spicy tinge for a finish; yet this manages not to overshadow the other components of flavor. there is a fruity grassiness that wasn’t quite apparent in the aromas, and the mouthfeel is spicy yet smooth and sweet with a dash of salt. this beer has character, on many different layers. truly an enjoyable beer.

UPDATED: JAN 19, 2009 A gift pack of 3 Unibroue beers is now finally widely available in Australia through First Choice liquor stores. Corked 750ml bottle into Trappist glass. A hazy copper brown ale with an ample dense biege head. Warming aromas of caramel roasted nuts and oranges. Tastes similar with a nice spicy finish and a gentle lingering bitterness. Smooth creamy mouthfeel that goes down very easily. On a par with some of the Belgium Trappist ales.

From 750ml bottle. Great aroma, citrus fruit cloves, malt. Rich deep brown colour. Flavors of yeast, cloves, banana, and citrus fruit, a little spicy and at 8% this is a fantastic beer.
