COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

this beer reminds me of autumn, the color of changing leaves and apple butter. medium, consistent head. slightly cloudy after adding yeast. aroma is full of apples and burnt fruit (raisins, apricots). tingling mouthfeel, although a little bit thin. quite complex flavor, tart, full of spice, and a touch of astringency. definitely in your face. finish is dry and slightly alcoholic. not perfect, but very enjoyable.

has the spicy aroma of a hefe, but the similarities stop there....slight bit of bubblegum and spice in the flavor as well....interesting brew

Dark sludgy brown like a westmalle dubbel, but the head was short lived. Aroma initially suggests a trappist dubbell (westmalle, again) but develops into more of a rodenbach type woody spicyness, although not sour. Bread dough in the mouth with a fruity (fig?) spicy cakelike taste. Aftertaste is delicate but leaves behind the first hint of its taste. As I work my way through the Unibroue beer range, saving the strongest for last (I have a trois pistoles and a La Fin Du Monde left) I get more and more impressed.

Poured a mostly clear deep amber color with a large fluffy off white head and effervescent body. Sweet malty aroma with notes of apricot, spice, yeast, sugar, coriander, and alcohol. Sweet malty flavors with caramel, crisp apple, and spicy but clean finish. Well hidden alcohol in flavor. Complex and medium bodied.

Mmmmm...this is good. Pours an amber color, high carbonation, great tan pillowing head. Aroma is very belgian. I’m detecting cider, pears, orange zest, coriander, clove, and a hint of cinnamon. Flavor is very much that of a belgian dubbel/tripple, which is very good indeed. I’m very glad that I got to this before Sleemans did.

Pours a dark amber with a thick but fleeting tan head. aroma is sweet, fruity, mostly apple, with a bit of apricot, prune and alcohol in the background. mouthfeel is creamy smooth, full and round. flavor is spicy at first, then fruit, honey and apricot. finish is peppery and sweet .Did not go well with Romano cheese, but probably would with gouda or swiss.

UPDATED: NOV 6, 2005 Fresh bottle. Foam pours out of bottle as soon as the cap BLOWS of the bottle(12 oz.) Initial aroma highly pepper and corriander.Head is flowing out of the glass.Settles to a milkish ringy lace. Lovely mahogany appearence. Taste;begins with a very lemony, fruity flavor.Followed by a bite of pepper and corriander much like aroma. As it warms the dry subtle hoppy bitterness comes out and turns this into a wonderfully, satisfying ale.

Had this one again a few nights ago. Strong alcohol taste along with floral, spice combo. Maybe orange or cinnamon in there as well. Decent carbonation as with most Unibroue beers and a light orangish brown head. Finishes well but leaves much of the floral taste behind. Still a great beer though. Never had a bad Unibroue!
