I cannot submit a complete rating on Maudite, as it has been over seven years I got it. But its clove-like taste and beautiful red color are still great memories I carry from my trip to Montreal. Probably my favorite beer ever!

Pours rich red with a fluffy white head. Strong aromas of stone fruits; the flavor is very well balanced, fairly sweet, with flavors of fruit and malt. Slight dryness when cold builds into a pleasant sweetness. Excellent.

I love Unibroue. About 10 years ago I was introduced to their beers and I fell in love. Not like a mother loves her child...it’s much more than this. At first they were not so easy to find but through the years they have been easier to locate. I was surprise to find them in our local Publix grocery store!

Probably the best beer I’ve ever had. Had to leave a little wiggle room in case I’m wrong. I will definitely be seeking out other Unibroue offerings.
4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Metalchopz (1173) - Quebec, CANADA - JUN 23, 2010
Poured a cloudy amber-orange colour with a few dark particules floating around. The beautiful creamy head stayed a while and left some wavy lacing. It also topped the brew with a nice foamy coating. Aromas were blasting with spices and fruits. The taste was composed of caramel, with the combo and fruits and spices. It started sweet and ended on a tarty bitter finish. The drinkability is top notch for me, even with its high alcohol content. Probably one of my best Begian strong ale.

Very enjoyable beer. Goes down smooth. Very drinkable considering it’s strong characteristics. Surprises the palate and no nasty aftertaste. Very good.
4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 whitecap (164) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 20, 2011
Bottle from The Beer Store (341ml). Pours dark orange-copper almost opaque with a thin white head. Aroma of ripe fruits, prunes, apricots. doughy unibroue style yeast, subtle nose of alcohol. Flavour is sweet with touch of alcohol and sweetness combined with caramel malt. A rather dry taste. Lots of ripe fruit flavour and heavy on the malt. Minimal bitterness and hops. medium-full body with lively carbonation. Well balanced, interesting and enjoyable. I keep coming back to this beer.

Mark’s Beer Reviews
I first discovered Maudite Ale at a resort called Pillar and Post in a picturesque little town in Canada called Niagara on the Lake . I asked the girl behind the bar “what do you have for dark beer ?”. She went on naming several run of the mill beers, none of them dark or interesting. I was getting annoyed, thinking a 5 star resort should have several hand crafted beers. I was about to walk away when she said, “ oh we have this, but I don’t know what it is” I stared as she pulled this strange looking bottle from the cooler. As she approached I noticed the label with its haunting image of the Devil, and the word Maudite which means Dammed in French. Then I noticed the word “refermented”, that’s when I was sure this was something good. Soon I saw that it was 8.0 % alcohol, definitely a beer I want to try. “I’ll take it I said !” I headed back to our table. Suzanne saw the excitement in my face. “ You found something ! “ she said with a smile on her face. “Yes I did” I replied. I poured the beer into my glass, it was a deep mahogany color with a rich copper head that slowly faded. I inhaled and found a spicy complicated aroma. Then I took a taste. At first I could not describe what I was experiencing. It was strong yet very flavorful, smokey, with hints of malt, possibly fruit. Unique for sure. Suzanne tried a taste and agreed that it was delicious. I only had one Maudite that night which was probably a good thing considering that we were traveling on bicycles. I still remember the warm glow it created.
After returning home, I did some research along with my local beer store, owner at (KB’s Adirondack Country Store) and he now carries Maudite on a regular basis. I’ve had the pleasure of enjoying Maudite several times now. One thing that myself and others have noticed is the strange effect it seems to have on ones mental state. Maudite has an effect unlike beer and more like a drug of some sort. It creates a state of exhilaration ,sometimes leading to great philosophical discussions and heated debates ! Maudite is brewed by Unibrow, in a small brewery north of Montreal. This beer is definitely worth checking out and worthy of any special occasion. Enjoy !
