sinkr (129), Lusby, Maryland, USA Dec 23, 2007 12 oz-ish bottle->tulip glass: Pours a decent head that is rocky, white, and diminishes quickly. Lacing is spare, the body is hazy, and the particles make the beer somewhat cloudy, which adds to its reddish darkness. The malt is heavy, as are the hops, with some herbs (or as some may consider spices) intertwined in with a dry fruityness. There is a considerable smell of alcohol to this brew and perhaps raisin, licorice, and some cinnamon in very small amounts. The body is full, the texture is thick and there is soft carbonation, though I feel like the beer finishes with a metallic taste, though the duration of the flavor post sip, does last a tad longer than the average, which I almost always feel is a good thing. Not a favorite Unibroue, for me, but I wouldn’t pass it up in the colder months, though I think this beer’d be a little out of place in the summer.
hirigalzkar (3), Stockholm, Sweden does not count Aug 29, 2008 Bottle from Systembolagets beställningssoritiment. Served in a Westmalle glass. Sweet "belgian" aroma with hints of toffee. The flavour is fruity and yeasty - complex. Cloudy body. ucusty (1016), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Aug 29, 2008 Copper pour with a creamy head, yeast proteins visible. Spicy citrus aroma (oranges), slightly floral. Nice spice component dominates the malt, notes of orange, cinnamon sugary. Finish is very sweet and sugary but soft and well balanced...perhaps a bit too sweet as it warms. BeerIndustry98 (14), , California, USA Aug 28, 2008 Deep dark brown in color and very cloudy. Nice head with tiny bubbles due to the secondary fermentation. Has a yeasty, raspberry aroma. Thick mouth feels as expected from appearance. Subtle bite and excellent tart taste with a moderate acidic finish. KyotoLefty (64), Kyoto, Japan Aug 27, 2008 A very complex Belgian-style amber /brown ale. Apples, wheat, spices, lots of dark fruits, and rich, sweet malt. Nice balance of sour, sweet, and a touch of bitter. Rich and tasty. taalhiker (11), , Ohio, USA Aug 26, 2008 from 750ml bottle - need to find my notes from the Unibroue tasting at my local supermarket. Always a favorite at my house.
