Commercial Description:
In November 1992 Maudite (the damned one), was the first strong beer to be distributed in Quebec grocery stores. Maudite is a mahogany-colored, rich-tasting premium beer that has a distinctive, complex taste. Because of the warmth it releases, this strong character beer must be served cool but not cold. Perfect with pasta, red meats, stews and spicy dishes, it also makes a good aperitif and after-dinner drink.
Maudite has a typically Quebecois name that is reminiscent of the legend of the Chasse-Galerie (the legend of the Flying Canoe). Legend has it that a group of lumberjacks struck a deal with the devil to fly home in their canoes, guided by Satan himself, to make it home in time for Christmas.
Gold medal winner in 1995 and 1996 and the Chicago Beverage Tasting Institute.

Bottle. Pours an orange/red with a nice foamy head! Aroma is caramel, sweet, apples and some banana. Flavor is really soft with sweet notes and lots of fruity and spicey notes.

Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of cereal and roasted, light perfume for the hops and moderate soap, barnyard and musty for the yeast, with date and clove inn the background. Head is small, fizzy white with no lacing and is fully diminishing. Color is a greyish red/brown. Flavor starts moderately sweet and acidic, then finishes lightly bittersweet and moderately bitter. Palate is medium, oily and has a fizzy carbonation. A nice Belgian Strong, just too fizzy and a spiciness that’s not my favorite.

Pours a dark orange, almost brown with an off-white frothy head. Aroma is malty and raisin/plum fruitiness with some sweet caramel notes. Flavor starts with some sweet caramel malt with some tartness in the finish. Some nice earthy tones with dark fruit flavors. Medium to full body and nice thick mouth feel. Overall really nice fullness to it and refreshing for it’s heavier body and higher alcohol.

This "damned one" was amazing. strong in mouth, full in nouse and deep in eyes, the head is poor for this style [BSA], the finish is bitter and the after taste dry. GooOooOoooOod One for me! enjoy it with pat metheny back.

The pour was clear brown with some darker ruby swirling through. The head was off-white, fizzy initially but became somewhat creamy towards the end. Spots of lacing. The aroma was yeast, malt, licorice and light tart fruit. The flavor was yeast, juicy fruit gum, licorice and malt. The mouthfeel was thin to medium, an easy drinking beer that isn’t nearly as intimidating as the bottle would lead you to believe.
