berkshire_john (1035), Bracknell, Berkshire, England Jul 19, 2008 Updated: Aug 1, 2008 750ml bottle bought in Quebec. A very impressive looking bottle. Unfortunately for me the contents didn’t live up to it.
Poured a deep straw with a thick white head, that fell back gradually but didn’t completely disappear. The aroma was sweet and quite complex with apricot, corn and earthy touches. Quite prickly in the mouth to start but then becoming smooth and buttery. The flavour was rather oily with some sweet fruit, but dominated by the alcohol, and lacking any real finish. A pleasant enough Belgian style ale, but disappointing overall. I was expecting something far more special for the occassion.
badlizard (1430), San Diego, California, USA Aug 20, 2008 Hazy yellow with a fizzy white head. Sweet malty fruity banana taste with nice carbonation. Pailhead (2310), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Aug 20, 2008 Bottle: The aroma is a combination of yeast, banana, apple, floral notes, and faint spice. It pours a hazy pale gold with a moderate white head with decent retention. The flavor starts with yeast and banana. There is some faint orange peel in the background. It finishes with light-medium floral hops, lemon, and light coriander. Medium bodied with lively carbonation, but not prickly. You pretty much get what you’d expect from Unibroue. If you like their beers, you should like this one as well. HughConway (259), USA Aug 20, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy yellow with a fluffy white head. Aroma is yeast with fruit. Taste is fruit and yeast and spice, nice body. Not worth the premium. beerbuzzmontreal (2697), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 17, 2008 Pours a cloudy golden color with a thick, white head. The aroma is yeasty and phenolic, reminds me of Don de Dieu with its soft banana candy feeling. Flavor of herbs, yeast, fruits, spîces, i don’t find the Don de Dieu feeling, but it’s still close to other Unibroue products, like if they would have blended Don de Dieu, Fin du Monde and maybe another beer. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and medium to lively carbonation. It’s interesting, but far from Unibroue’s best products. Cornfield (4255), Oak Lawn, Illinois, USA Aug 16, 2008 750ml bottle: Kind of a quiet brew for Unibroue, but on the plus side, not quite so gassy and overly carbonated as most of theirs. It poured a hazy gold body with a respectable, fizzy head. The aroma was sweet pale malt, coriander, lemon, and a light floral bouquet. Tasted pretty much as the smell advertized, only with a pleasant floral bitterness that increased in the dry finish. Not bad.
