The whole night I kept saying, "how cool would it be if they brought out some Quelque Chose?" When they did, I must more than just a little excited. I was at once surprised by the deep, penetrating blood red body, lack of head, and complete lack of carbonation. The aroma was very strong and spicy with nutmeg and an undeniable cherry medicine scent. At first sip I was blown away by the sherry/ dry aperitif cordial notes. Yet the beer was refreshing... in a Flemish Sour kind of way. I’m certain that I would have enjoyed this a bit more had it been served on the rocks, or even heated, like suggested on the bottle. Instead it was served slightly above room temperature and I simply don’t think it did the beer justice. We were also really drunk by this time, being the last beer of 11 or 12 to be sampled. Nonetheless, it was extremely interesting, and a great way to end an amazing beer tasting. iowaherkeye (1832), Bakersfield, California, USA May 10, 2008 2002 vintage, thanks to hey kevin for the sample. Notes from January ’07. Hazy caramel orange with a few bubbles for a head. Aroma was of some wintergreen, cloves, and caramel syrup. Flavor was the same with more caramel and some added cherry notes, and a dry finish. Only the tinest bit of carbonation was noted with a medium-full body. Pretty nice. jhagmar (114), Gothenburg, Sweden May 10, 2008 Thanks to ekstedt & friends. Reddish brown, no head. Cherries and glühwein. Sweet and sour taste. No carbonation. mikey (336), farmington, Utah, USA Apr 30, 2008 Poured a light ruby red with absolutly no head. The nose most notably was of sour cherries, cinnamon and nutmeg. The taste shows off the cherries imidiatly with a ton of spicey nutmeg. Following beneth is a bit of sourness and a hint of cinnamon. Carbonation is nearly nonexistant . This beer has a nice light body but the intense tartness makes it’s drinkability low. If you like sangria you’ll love this. This is definatly worth a try. I should point out that it’s recomended that Quelque Chose be served mulled. It was served to me cold about 45 degrees. blklab2007 (932), Connecticut, USA Apr 27, 2008 750 bottle corked and caged first served on the rocks. poured a red copper color with a thin froth on the surface perhaps from the room temperature liquid coming in contact with the ice. no carbonation present at all with aromas of sweet cherry, honey, and spice. sorta like schnapps, flavor is fruited, sticky sweet, and has a sweet and sour thing.
warmed does change this a bit. causes it to come off less syrupy with heavier spice and a better fruit flavor. has a warming effect this way and the alcohol becomes more apparent. was somewhat struggling with this cold but warm it is quite nice.
first time for two things here. beer with ice in it and beer warmed.
