Bottle of the 02 vintage at BCTC. Pours a deep burgundy with just a touch of a thin white head. Cherry all over this, smells wonderful. Complex and sweet but not cloying, exhibiting a ton of lovely flavor and just flat out delicious.
nickd717 (1275), Palo Alto, California, USA Jul 27, 2009 Bottle via trade, enjoyed both hot and cold. What an awesome fruit beer. Pours a deep red color with minimal head. Aroma is loads of cherries, wood, and spices. Spices more noticeable when hot. Flavor is really rich cherry and spices, mostly sweet but also with a hint of tartness. Alcohol more noticeable when hot, as well as some vinous notes, reminiscent of mulled wine. Smooth, almost creamy palate. Wish I had easier access to this great stuff. DandyWolfFloyd (331), Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 27, 2009 I wish this would let you rate this cold and hot, so instead I averaged out the scores. First of all if you get to try this now a days, your fortunate. This is becoming increasingly unavailable, so good luck. Chilled review - I think partially because its cold its aromas become muted, definite aromas of a vinuous cherry, some sweet alcohol, and a touch of spice. The appearance is a dark ruby color. Flavor is superb, the cherries are great with no adjuncts here. The cherries are soft, mildly acidic, and with a nice spice alcohol as well. The feel is somewhat sweet and nice cooling off of flavors finishes excellently. Hot 160 F Review - Much more alcoholic in nature, still some vinuous aromas, yeast, spices are much more acute - the immediate waft scares the belly with alcohol anticipation. The appearance is much darker a deep brown color with a layer of froth on top. Oh my, the flavor is much more alcohol warming with some milder cherry acidity and more mellow spice. Absolutely decadent. Definitely a sipper, this is a cold winter cold defeater or warmer. The drink is utterly smooth velvety, like drinking a cherry heat wave. tarjei (1741), Bryne, Norway Jul 18, 2009 50 cl bottle, shared with Roger and Atle. Reddish brown color, almost no head. Aroma cherry, oak/wood and sweet spices. Flavor is lovely cherries, fantastic sweetness, a discret hint of sourness. Half dry finish. Moderate carboonation. Lovely. MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Jul 16, 2009 Foolish me - drank it right out of the fridge; so much for reading the label before serving. Poured a reddish colour and virutally no head. Aroma was suggesting some cherry, and the taste was like a (sweet) cherry wine but with more of an alcohol "bite" to it than wine would have. Hard for me to think of this as a beer, but I’d certainly have it again. IrishBoy (2685), Bakersfield, California, USA Jul 13, 2009 Bottle shared by Kiapepito. Nose of lightly tart cherries with a hint of yeast. Clear, Santa Rosa plum red with very little head. Flavor is lightly sweet cherries with a background hint of tart . Nestled in the background is some nutmeg spiciness. Rynoplasty (500), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jul 7, 2009 Pours deep red with almost no head. Aroma is big dark cherry. Flavor is big sweet and sour cherry with some estery notes and a little warming at the end. Not bad. ljstephenson (111), Lawton, Oklahoma, USA Jun 27, 2009 Deep ruby pour, strong fruity cherry aroma, flavor is packed with cherry and some spice, a bit of an oily feel, very sweet but doesn’t hide the alcohol at all, finishes dry, one bottle is a bit too much, would’ve been easier to share.
