hopson (591), Williamsville, New York, USA Apr 17, 2007 bottle- enjoyed hot after warming in a double boiler....great fruity aroma, with a sting in the finish, cherries dominate certainly but as do grapes...this beer has a similiar yeasty finish found in other unibroue that I find pleasent. Enjoy this hot, I have tried it cold, and it is not as good. A unique beverage for sure. rlgk (3377), Vårgårda, Sweden Mar 29, 2007 Amber/dark orange color, no head. Dry. woody aroma, cherry, some other fruits and some rubber. Sweetish woody flavor with cherry. Fruity finish with cherry dominating. pnista (1008), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Mar 25, 2007 Red with a brownish tinge and the least head I’ve seen on a beer less than 5 years in age. The nose is ridiculously sweet and smelling very little like beer, not that I’m complaining. Maraschino cherries, allspice, cinnamon, cloves. The slightest bit of tartness resembling raspberry or blackberry. Rather lovely I must say, like a decent hot wine, though not served hot... On the tongue this is a bit flat, but not in a bad way. Slightly sticky, but entirely appropriate for slaking a hot summer day’s thirst. A very nice sweet flavor. Again, nothing resembling beer, much more like a liquor or a cloying port or sherry. Big sweet and sour cherry flavor. Much more sweet, only a tiny bit tart, blending in well with a cinnamon and allspice flavor very nicely. The alcohol is well hidden, but seems to add some sharpness to the berry tartness in the finish. The finish is tart with lingering spices. While the aftertaste has more tartness, lemon-like, with a bit of residual cinnamon and cloves. I think this might become a go-to summer time beer. At minimum, this is a beer I’d like to keep a couple bottles of around, as I think any non beer drinker would generally drink this stuff up. ChristianScheffel (4402), Odense, Denmark Mar 25, 2007 Dark copper with no head. Cherry aroma falling on that thin line between candy and vinegar. Sour cherry flavour with lasting acid on the tongue. No carbonation.
Doesn’t work for me. thomat (666), Göteborg, Sweden Mar 25, 2007 Red color without any head. Little carbonation with lots of fruit notes. Very strong cherry taste combined with some sweetness. Only tasted cold ! thornecb (1734), Marblehead, Massachusetts, USA Mar 21, 2007 2002 edition - heated. Pours a deep cherry amber into a mug. The slightest wisp of head around the rim. Dark cherry and mulled spice aromas. Tingly deep cherry with a lasting spiced cherry finish. Quite nice. pilsnerrogge (1769), Finspång, Sweden Mar 20, 2007 [75 cl corked bottle] Red colour, no head, very little carbonation. Sweet/sourish cherry aroma. Pleasant tartness turns into carmell-ish sweetness who gets a little bit too much in the long run. Surprisingly thin body. The taste of alcohol was nowhere to be found. Tasted better cold than warm. CharlesDarwin (1821), Point Judith, Rhode Island, USA Mar 18, 2007 2002 500mL bottle. Served at 55. Wicked mulled wine and fresh squeezed cherry juice. A load of dried Monmortency cherries. Definitely some allspice, orange rind and christmas potpourri over a vestibule of vinous alcohols and warming cherry vapors. Slightly artificial. Absolutely still. Not well sealed cap. Lightly hazed pomegrante color. No head. On the tongue, more mulled wine and a wisp of flowers. Flavor is a middle of the road, cran-rasp-apple-grape muddled juice flavor, with some oxidized cork, wispy coriander and rounding belgian yeast notes. Certainly would benefit from some carbonation and the fruit characters seem original, with classic fall apple cider and juicy cherry notes, but it’s not beer enough, nor rough around the edges, unique enough. Typically Unibroue. Tastes too much like juice. Alcohol does hide well, I suppose. Trying it warm and Ice cold as well.
