shigadeyo (2210), Harrison, Ohio, USA Feb 5, 2007 In addition to the keg of Old Rasputin and at a friend’s Super Bowl party on 2/04/2007, there were also many other great beers. Among the brew shared was a 750 mL bottle of Unibroue Quelque Chose. We chose to drink this beer on ice since it was already cold...
Unibroue Quelque Chose is red in color and quite clear. The aroma is mostly cherry with some cinnamon notes. The flavor was sweet cherry, a hint of spice (cinammon), and then a balancing sour cherry in the finish. The balancde between sweet and sour/tart was quite well done and very refreshing. Medium body and not too thin or syrupy. This is an interesting and from what I hear, it is even better hot. I will have to try it that way next time... Thank you Ken and Cindy for sharing this tasty beer. I enjoyed it and I know my wife really liked it as well. Finally, another beer that she likes...
Aubrey (2773), Denver, Colorado, USA Feb 3, 2007 Headless (as I guess it should be) and murky burgundy. Dried-fruit nose. Texture is soft, syrupy and very lightly carbonated. Malts are sweet and filled with fruit flavors like raisins, plums, figs and cherries, of course. A pinch of cocoa surfaces here and there. Sugared spices are also evident, especially cinnamon. I also thought I detected some others spices, like allspice and nutmeg, though they may not be in the beer. Overall, it was a pleasant beer, albeit a little too sweet for me. My main complaint is that its heavy sweetness wasn’t balanced out by enough alcohol, bitterness or carbonation. Slacks (480), Bolton, Ontario, Canada Feb 3, 2007 Full-Size Corked Bottle: Lots of excited guys waiting to try this one last night. Heated it up slowly in a pot on the stove, stopped well short of a boil so it was just warmed through. The viscosity appeared quite thick, but the drink wasn’t, which was interesting. The aroma was rich in drunken cherries, very sweet smelling. The flavour was widely lauded by the nine I shared it with with the most noticeable elements being the cherry, cinnamon, and cloves. Surprisingly well hidden alcohol. Great stuff, but as a note to those who might expect something else, this doesn’t "taste like beer" as most said. vanvenlo (794), Glen Iris, Australia Jan 31, 2007 20 Aug 2006 - BIg sweet cherry, with distinct cinnamon aroma. Deep red-brown colour, low-low head and awful lacing. Rich cinnamon and cherry sweet but lacks complexity, more of a syrup. Sweet spicy tangy finish. PilsnerPeter (2585), Flushing, New York, USA Jan 30, 2007 Updated: Jun 18, 2008Vintage 2002 Limited Edition 500ml cork & wire: Poured at room temperature. Beautiful hazy deep red color with no head. The aroma is huge fresh cherries (duh), slight hints of oxidation, musty, nutty and some woods notes. Amazing flavor. Slightly viscous in the early sweetness. Obviously huge cherry flavors slap you, but there’s a lot more going on. It has a port like richness, but the drinkability of a Witbier. Light woody notes and a late cinnamon hint. The alcohol is completely hidden. The finish has a beautiful almondy smoothness. Delicious and rich, yet extremely drinkable. A great quality Fruit Beer. RagallachMC (631), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Jan 29, 2007 500ml bottle. 2002 vintage. Aroma: Strong cherry aroma. A bit of a medicinal smell makes it smell like cough syrup. Some spicy cinnamon and allspice. Appearance: Reddish-copper in color and clear. No pop when the cork came out. Almost no carbonation left in this beer. No head or lacing. Flavor: Nice tart cherry flavor. Strong cinnamon/allspice/clove. Some brown sugar and what tastes like a hint of mint into the finish. Some nice sourness throughout. Palate: Medium bodied. No carbonation. Overall: This suffered due to lack of carbonation, IMO. Sweetness lingered a bit into finish and carbonation might have prevented that. Seemed a little one dimensional overall. stubby (325), Santee, California, USA Jan 28, 2007 Probably one of the best fruit beers I have had, ever. Completely flat. I did not drink it hot, but at cellar temp. Strong cherry and clove flavors, sweet, not like much I have had before. Blows away more lambic style cherry brews, in my opinion. A special occasion beer that might be my new holiday fun time brew. Lunkie (1020), Glen Iris, Australia Jan 28, 2007 Sour cherry malt aroma. Clear red colour with no head or lacing. Sweet cherry flavour like cherry syrup. Flat palate.
