Bottle purchased at Sam the Beer Man in Binghamton, NY. Pours ruby with no head. Aroma is cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg and wheat. Flavor is the same with a nice mellow wheat finish. Pretty good fruit beer. This is not too sweet and not syrupy at all.

750 mL caged and corked bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy ruby with spare to non-existent white bubbly and fizzy head, no lacing. Aroma is average malt (bread, straw, roasted grain), light hops (flowers, grass, lemon), average yeast (dough, earth) with notes of cherry, plum, cask and cola. The cherry is tart with hints of lemon and blends well with the malt aromas. Average duration, moderate sweetness and acidity, heavy bitterness with vninegar notes. Medium bodied, creamy to oily texture, soft carbonation. This paired very well with a Stuffed Pork Loin with Imperial Stout; the tart sweetness of the beer played off very well with the prunes, apples, pork and imperial stout.

I can’t believe I hadn’t rated this sooner! Forget the Lindeman’s, *this* is the cherry beer for me. Wonderful complexity, nice and sweet, more alcohol, spiciness. Next time I think I’ll do like some others and heat it up. Very warming - wonderful for the cold winter coming soon.

(07.30.06) One pint 0.9 oz brown bottle from DiCarlo’s, Mundelein, IL. 8% ABV. Bottle labeled 8.8.2002. Ale brewed with cherries. Sour cherry aroma. Poured clear reddish amber with no head. No discernable carbonation. Medium bodied ale that starts with light malt sweetness and intense sour cherry flavor. Some cedar wood and leather notes. Slight tanginess. Finished with light tartness. Smooth and lightly tangy with luscious cherry flavor. Alcohol well hidden. An excellent ale, particularly after a meal. One of my favorite Unibroue beers.

750 ml bottle into a Flute glass. I tried a sip of this cold before warming it up, and I will mainly base my rating on the warmed up version as it seems like it is better that way, and seems to be how it’s supposed to be drank. Pours a see through reddish color with a light brown tint to it with a very small head. The aroma bring a super cinnamon spice note while having a bit of dark fruits (mainly black cherries) backed behind it. The flavor is quite intense on the spice note (which is not as present cold). Quite tart on the tongue, and syrupy on the palate. Cinnamon, black cherry juice, and sour apples run through my tastebuds. Almost no carbonation. Very acidic. Overall, I think this brew is an incredibly odd, yet very satisfying treat! Great for a cold night, or dessert!!

Note; I started with a little bit of this beer in a snifter at cellar temp. I then heated up the rest of it. There is a definite difference. At cellar temp, this beer more closely resembled brandy. It had a beuatiful sweet smell, and the characteristic sweet yet sour brandy taste. The aroma was sour cherries, port wine. The color was this gorgeous red/brown, hazy, and there was very little head. I then heated up the rest. It definitely made the beer more tart, both in aroma and flavor. The aroma had more alcohol while warmed up. (It gave my kitchen a cool smell, though!!) It also made the beer a darker red, almost brown, and more clear. The alcohol was not noticible for a 8% ABV. It was enjoyable both ways, but overall I prefer the beer at cellar temp. Maybe on a cold evening I would try this again warm. Very interesting and versatile beer however.
