750 ml bottle: pours a nice garnet hue with no head period. aroma is tart cheeries with honey cinnamon aand a hint og dark fruit (raisin/date). i was expeting this tto be a little more on the tart acidic dry side, but its actually quite sweet. very little carbonation and silky smooth. cherries and cinnamon are the dominant flavors. maybe some oaky vanillaness in there some where and honey. sampled at 52F and 120F. rating based on 52F at 120Fthe alcohol becomes more evident. sweetness fades some and the tart acidity pokes through. still smooth and delicious. it

2002 16.9 oz-A ruby red with no head and an aroma of cherries and slight alcohol. Taste of cherries, raisins, cloves, and other spices. Doesn’t really taste like a beer but very tasty otherwise.

Nice deep red with brown notes and no head at all. Cherry, spice, cherry, raisins and cherry.(lol) Very nice balance, but absolutly no carbonation. Maybe a bad bottle, but this beer can manage it.

Bottle which I bought down here. 2006 bottle, 750ml. I have a 2002 at home, but I chose to drink the younger one. I also did 2 samples of this: one hot and one at cellar temp

cold: Dark red colored pour with no head. No carbonation in it. Smell is full of cinnamon, and dark cherries. Taste is smooth, full of oak, cloves, honey, cherries, and more cherries. Pretty good, smooth and easy to drink and pretty pleasing. Not sour like I was hoping.

hot: this is the best way to drink it. smooth and richer, but it also has a more pronouced alcohol flavor. same aroma, but this time it fills the room with the steam from the mug. very nice stuff. this is the best way to drink it, and the one I am basing my rating on. the cherry flavor comes out a lot more in this way.

i like how just by heating it up the beer takes on a whole new dimension. very nice.

Bottle. Okay, I’m not a big fan of intense cherry beers. So I pour this still, bright red brew skeptically into a snifter. Swirling reveals oily lacing. The nose is semi-sour with tart cherries and a bit of cloves. It’s nicely aromatic. The cherries are up front and defined in the mouth but nicely balanced with a subtle Belgian-beer-spiced-type-flavor profile. Abit of clove and cardemom intertwine with a hint of grapes. Very well done. IMO, much better than, say, New Glarus Belgian Red which I felt was like drinking cherry juice. So, curiously I heat some of this brew up to a sipping-hot temperature at the behest of the booklet around the neck. It becomes much more tart with a bit more definition of the cherry aspects and less of the subtle spiced beer notes I enjoyed so much. I think this was much more enjoyable at cellar temp.

Cellar Temperature: Smells like apple peels and spices. Thin head, dark amber color, clear. Noticable cherry flavor with a bit of cinnamon, apple and other mulling spices. Refreshing. Good for fall or winter.

2002. dark amber to brown. no head. flavor and aroma are of cherries of course. the cherries taste very real, fresh, and juicy. hints of spices (cinnamon, anise) and maybe some plum notes. medium bodied. sweet and sticky. sampled chilled and room temp. occasionally it tastes like robotussin. i would enjoy this more if i liked cherry flavored drinks.

Had this beer hot out of a ceramic mug on the first totally dark and soggy day this fall. It doesn’t drink like beer at all- it’s pretty flat at any temperature and once it’s hot it drinks more like a cider or a mulled wine. Very sour cherry with hints of cinnamon. I wouldn’t guess it had alcohol in it if I didn’t already know. I’ll probably hang on to a case of this.
