stegosaurus (1882), Levittown, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 22, 2005 Updated: Mar 15, 2007wow this was excellent, poured a bronze/ reddish copper color, good smell of cherries and alcohol, the taste was like a sweet red wine, without the dryness, smooth flavor of cherries and alcohol, excellent, excellent beer. wildchefbill (244), Sarasota, Florida, USA Jul 20, 2005 2002 Bottle. Room Temperature. Pours reddish with no head. Aroma strong with cherry. Flavor starts sweet with hints of spice (cinnamon, clove?). Tart finish. 8%ABV? Did not seem that high. Little carbonation. Goes down very easy. Very nice ale. KAggie97 (2406), Ugly, Hot, and Humid Spring, Texas, USA Jul 18, 2005 Updated: Sep 22, 2005Pours thin, almost too watered down. Aroma is freshly baked cherry pie. Taste is a field of cherries, with a touch of strawberry. A cobbler-like feel is prevalent throughout, as if I am drinking a cherry cobbler pie (and all you English RBeerers can snicker now). Resembles a cold mulled spice drink best enjoyed at Christmas. The thin palate keeps this from being an awesome brew, but it is impressive nonetheless. Thanks to Kevin for taking me to the S-N-K liquor store. Definite repeat. mullet (798), Melbourne, Australia Jul 11, 2005 Updated: Apr 5, 20062002 vintage. More or less flat, cherry red colour, clear. Great musty aged cherry aroma is better than most cherry lambics I reckon. There’s also a distinct mint and grassy herbal aroma (tarragon, rosemary, thyme etc.) Tastes similar to the way it smells only it’s too sweet and mediciney and not nearly as interesting. It’s lightly tart, but I would like it to be a lot more so. Great bottle too - don’t think I’ve ever seen a 500mL champagne-style bottle before. Seems like it had a few more years of aging in it too. RR: A little fizz. Losing its colour somewhat - more like an orange/rose colour now. At room temp it has a great, deep, austere aroma of subtle cherry and spice with a vague acetic hint. It really seems at its prime right now (2002 bottle.) It tastes really quite sweet though, with some muscaty sultanas, which is nice but not great. It’s sweet but it’s still good. Warm, the spices (cinnamon, vanilla) come out a LOT more. As does the alcohol. Very vinous, in fact it tastes a whole lot like glühwein (derr) to the point of not being able to pick it as beer. Nice enough, but far too much alcohol and spice. It’s better at room temp. FoolishMortal (965), San Diego, California, USA Jul 9, 2005 Nearly flat, ruby red color. Tart cherry aromatics. Complex fruit profile, tart and sweet cherries, apple, peach, fig. As it warms and particularly in the finish, there is a lingering cinnamon flavor. Mouthfeel is cloying. SDalkoholic (1186), Chula Vista, California, USA Jun 28, 2005 This 500ml bottle had the most difficult cork to pop off i have ever had to deal with. I had to resort to breaking the neck of the bottle off because the cork was so stubbornly stuck inside its resting space. Well at least a delightful aroma of sweet sweet cherries and candy sugar was an immediate welcoming to my nose once the glass shattered. It was a strong and fruity aroma made up of other qualities besides the cherry and sugar such as sryup, apple, cinnamon and a scent like some sort of candle. In appearance, it was a lovely looking amber red with no head created while a very slow movement of bubbles floated to the top. As recommonded, i waited patiently for ten minutes or so as the contents sitting in my glass warmed up to room tempature before i took a drink, although, my glass still had a slight chill and sweat on it. The flavor was remarkable and kept a very robust character similar to a light red wine and somewhat in comparison almost tasted like one. The flavor did also remind me of a warm apple cider with its strong apple like background but the cherry was the most prodominant ingredient creating this fruit beers profile. In addition, the notice of a rose flower, spice, cough syrup, cinnamon, and minor tastings of different fruits were also present. Some given examples of those fruits are grape, plum, pomegranate, and strangely enough kiwi. Overall, an interesting and complex drink that has an undeniable Unibroue twist to it. MrRomero (1934), Nolanville, Texas, USA Jun 12, 2005 2002 Bottle: poured a flat reddish brown. Aroma of cherries, lambic-esque. Taste is full of cherries and cinnamon. Wasn’t expecting the cinnamon. First sip was strange but it settled down on my tongue and turned into something nice. Somewhat syrupy and gluhweinish. Nice. darkstar (69), Eureka, Missouri, USA Jun 9, 2005 Smells more like a liquor than a beer. Bright red color with no apparent carbanation. Taste of cherry and cinnamon. Sits on the palate very still. Very different but very pleasing.
