Taste is full of cherries and cinnamon. Wasn’t expecting the cinnamon. First sip was strange but it settled down on my tongue and turned into something nice. Somewhat syrupy and gluhweinish. Nice. darkstar (69), Eureka, Missouri, USA

Taste of cherry and cinnamon. Sits on the palate very still. Very different but very pleasing. tupalev (2611), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada

Ended a wonderful night at Volo with this served perfectly warm (75 degrees) by Ralph, just as the Patio was starting to get chilly. Incredibly strong cinnamon and cherry aroma - more cherry as it cools. Very dark ruby red in the glass. Incredibly warm cherry taste. Hides alcohol very well. Stayed warm for the whole bottle as well. The perfect after dinner or dessert beverage and one of the finest unique drinking experiences I have ever had. biz82 (1328), austin, Texas, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 18/20 | May 12, 2005 Found a stash of 2002 here locally. Clear and bright red with no apparent carbonation. Aroma of cherry fruit leather with some cinnamon, natural and straight forward. Reminds me of being a kid, growing up in food co-op’s with my hippie parents. Very still on the palate. Decieving as a beer but feels nourishing as a drink. Amazingly organic cherry flavor with some tannic bitterness. Well balanced and not too sweet. Overall one of the better beers I’ve had. lagermonkey (597), Marietta, Georgia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | May 9, 2005 Ours a deep deep cherry red and very very still. So still I thought something must be wrong but other reviews seem to agree that this is the way the beer is. Smells nice. Cherries and lots of spices. Smells and looks more like sweet wine than beer.
Tastes very very sweet up front. Spicy with cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg present. Smooth and silky. No carbonation, very flat mouthfeel. As it warms, more sour notes and a sour finish. Drinkability? Good under certain circumstances...
I had this beer chilled but I saw on the tag that for best results you should warm the beer to enjoy it in the traditional manner. This beer tastes most like mulled wine so I would think it would be greatly improved warm. I think I’ll try some warmed at thanksgiving and re-review if necessary.

Pours a brilliantly clear cherry-cough medicine color with no head or and perhaps only a tickle of carbonation. The aroma of this beer fills the air with sticky sweet cherries as I pour this beer. A deeper smell reveals savory notes of spices on top of the cherry notes which dominate the underside of this beer. At this point it is hard for me to pick out the individual components of the spices, but I get notes of clove and nutmeg.
This beer is lightly chilled at this point, probably about 60*F. The beer is fairly sweet, though not sticky, and it is quite fruity, though not just with notes of cherries. I also pick up notes of ripe plums, and some fig as well. This beer is only lightly spiced at this point, which I must admit is a plus for me. This beer is certainly interesting, and, despite misgivings, I can see how this would actually be tasty served over ice on a hot summer day. It certainly hides its alcohol quite well, I really don’t get any notes of it in this beer. For a while there, as I work my way through my 500ml sample, I thought that this beer might be a little too much, but it is really going down quite smoothly and I think that I am quite enjoying this beer. There is a slightly spicy, astringent note in the finish that balance the sweet fruitiness that is found in the forefront. davidflores99 (225), Long Beach, California, USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 19/20 | Apr 28, 2005 Wow, I really liked this beer. I had this at about room temperature. Poured a dark amberish color, with almost no head. Aroma was clearly of cherries and flavor was so smooth. You can taste the cherries in there, and with the alcohol it went down very smoothly. I was really impressed with this brew. highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Apr 24, 2005 A little too close to Ribena cordial for my taste, but a bold brew all the same. Had it at room temperature. Poured a cherry-brown colour with not a hint of carbonation. Aroma of sour cherries, dark chocolate and nail varnish. Surprisingly light bodied for the abv. Lots of sour-sweet cherries and peppery alcohol. Nice dessert ale. Could serve this with ice cream. (Bottle)
