2002 vintage: The first beer I’ve consumed at the boiling point. This unusual beer is best served heated to about 150 F. Pours reddish with a small but creamy head. Very strong taste of cherry is present but not overly tart. As the name suggests, this one is definitely "something else."

Chilled 2002 version. Pours red and nearly still. Aromas of balsamic vinegar, cherries and sugar waft from the glass. Taste is of tarte cherries and a minimal but present underlying sourness. This is one hell of a versatile beer!

08-08-2002 vintage sampled cold on 01-15-2008. The beer pours to a shiny strawberry amber body with no head. The aroma is cherry juice, subtle oak chips, lots of minor hard to describe aromas but the overall blend is nice. Perhaps some cinnamon sticks and cloves. The flavor is very much like the aroma. Oh so nicely blended. The palate is sweet, tart, and on the verge of being sticky. Medium bodied.

Brought to MrFacto’s ’Tosa tasting by CaptainCougar; this beer was labeled "Best by 10/05/2002," so it was probably from 1999 or 2000. Hazy orange body with nary a head. Very appealing sour cherry aroma with notes of cinnamon, caramel, and toast as well as alcohol. Cherry pie flavor with tart cherries, toast, alcohol, and a peculiar woodiness, finishing with a lingering bitterness. Soft carbonation. Wow...besides New Glarus Belgian Red this is the best cherry beer I’ve tried.

2002 vintage. This turns out to be one versatile brew, I tried it at room temp, then heated up to 150 degrees. At lower tems the sweet cherries are accented much more, being much bolder and with a more pronounced tartness to them. When this brew is warmed the spices really come up front and bring a hot apple cider feel to it. Pours a nice red fading to more of a yellow around the edges. This makes for a interesting brew that works well as a afterdinner brew.

This is a "something different" kind of a drink, one to have on rare occasion.. Frankly, I wasn’t real impressed at room temperature or mulled. It’s a nice looking ruby red color, no head at room temperature. It has a rather sharp, almost medicinal cherry aroma. Mayhaps that’s ’cause this is how many of the cough syrups here are made to tase and smell. Vinuous with strong cherry flavors, this is an ale only by virtue of how it was brewed. More like a cherry wine, the tartness of it gave me heartburn. Like the spiciness. There was also quite an alcohol presence, even more so than in Robitusson DM. Nice dry, cherry finish. Didn’t cough all night.

I tried this one at room temperature and heated. Both were outstanding. Beautiful red color with no head. Chery smell and dark cherry flavor. A little one dimensional, but what a wonderful dimension it is!! 9/4/10/5/19

2002 Bottle 500ml. Consumed New Years Eve 2007.

COLD: Poured a deep clear garnet with no head or carbonation. Aroma is deep, rich, sweet cherries. The flavor is incredibly smooth. The age has been very good to this bottle.

WARM: The aroma is more active and fragrant. The flavors bite a bit more and scratch my throat. I think I prefer it cold.

2002 bottle, pours light amber red with no head to speak of. aroma is like cherries, alcohol, very sweet. flavor is similar, very much like real cherries or cherry pie filling. slight alcohol flavor, but not at all overwhelming.

2002:Rating reflects HOT sample Room Temp: Pours a very nice red color, no head at all. Looks very much like a glass of wine. Aroma is very cherry, sweet and fresh. Flavor is very sweet and tangy, cherries dominate, some alcohol, a little sour, and a suprisingly dry ending. Hot: The color remains the same, but the beer now has developed a thin head. Be careful when heating, as head may overflow. Aroma is almost the same, though now has a spritzy, nose tingling quality. Flavor now displays a bit more alcohol, as well as some spiciness that was missing at room temp. A very neat way to drink beer. As a hot-tea fan, this is very good as an alternative.
