bb (2905), Martinez, California, USA Dec 27, 2004 Bottle. 2002 vintage. Tried at room temperature. Reddish color with no head. Aroma of cherries, tea, cloves, and christmas spices. Flavor of mulling spices and cheries. Easy drinking, lingering spiciness. I don’t think I could drink a lot of this, but it’s good for somethign different. Would think it’s best heated up. Kevin (1917), Colorado, USA Dec 22, 2004 Winter finally arrived in north texas. i get back to my apartment in the barrio pop this one out and warm up a cup. i head back out to the pond behind the place. the wind is whipping little dervishes of snow there is a thin layer of snow covering everything, the ducks are flocking down upon the surface of the water before me. i take a sip as i inhale the warm cherry pie and cinnamon aroma. this is buttery and warm the steam rises up and fogs my glasses just a touch as i savor the lingering graham cracker and cherry taste. the alcohol appears greater than 8% as it warms my throat. frozen ears chilled fingertips warm hands from cupping my beverage and a nice spreading warmth from the inside out. for just a moment i forgot i was stuck in this rundown area and thougth i was back in the backwoods i grew up in. a very nice brew that is a bit cloying but it does it’s job well so i’ll let that slide. i also tried cold and it is night and day. heat this sucker up and find a cold climate and enjoy, i did. Pigfoot (2226), Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA Dec 21, 2004 This is only my second bottle of this beer, though I’m a dedicated Unibroue fan. The last, and first bottle I tried, was at a holiday family gathering a few years ago, and my beer-loving brother claimed that "this is no BEER!" Okay, maybe, maybe not...This time, though, I’m going to try it mulled, as they like it, though a portion was poured chilled...ripe orange color, smallish head, tart aroma, sour cherries, tangy, sweet, tasty...if you hate tartness, stay away, but be warned that there’s more to this than you might expect...Now, it’s time to try the heated version...perfect for the snowy, 10 degree climate here in Minneapolis...heated: bright crimson, huge, creamy, frosty white head. Aroma, well-masked by the heat, burning fruit, Taste: the heat is too much to consider it gently, but it’s terrifically integrated, the sour cherry flavor is muted some by the heat, but the taste is still rich and rewarding...yum, yum, I wish I wasn’t so close to the furnace, so I could reap it’s benefits better...an excellent nightcap, better than a dessert, more effective than a lambic...this, the well-heated Quelque Chose, is a true beer experience! I’ve got to go out and get some more, to make the march past February less unbearable!
11026 (1799), Alabama, USA Dec 20, 2004 Bottle. Tasted at room temp and heated. I have to say, despite my doubts the mulled version was spectacular!!! Smelling like a warm fruit cobbler or pie. Lots of cherry and apple aromas. Burgundy colored. This coats your tongue and palate with a warm spicey glaze and just blows me away. Hands down the best Unibroue product I have had. howie (549), DeForest, Wisconsin, USA Dec 20, 2004 Dark amber body, slight haze. Very little carbonation, no head. Intense aromas of sour cherries, worcestershire sauce, gingerbread spice. Vinous, spicy flavors, zinfandel-like. Complex. Rating based on room temp sample. I didn’t enjoy this heated. Dorwart (1807), Robbinsville, New Jersey, USA Dec 19, 2004 No head but light carbonation in the glass. Christmas aroma of plums, cherries, gingerbread and some other spices. Color is a slightly hazy dark reddish amber. Quite sweet and fruity. Distinct gingerbread in the flavor as well along with a bit of sour cherries. Little vinuous and spicy. Quite good. Finish is a little sweet and slightly tart. Warming as it goes down. A very good and easy drinking diversion to traditional beer. Wow, I am drinking this stuff fast. Did not go for tradition and try it warm. Tastes great cold to me. Thanks to radiomgb for this one. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Dec 13, 2004 Reddish brown drink with no head. Cherry cough drop aroma. Very sweet cough drop syrup with some horse blanket, organic notes. Musky! No carbonation Oily mouthfeel. Should try it mulled/warm. (Sept. 2004) civforprez (225), Galesburg, Illinois, USA Dec 10, 2004 Served hot. Pours a clear, full red. No head. No legs. Arom is of fresh cherries, flavor is soft, subtle, but of cherries. Alcohol not very apparent. Smooth and sweet, not bitter like a kriek. When warm, like warm cherry pie.
