jollyraider (252), Los Angeles, California, USA Aug 25, 2004 Tried chilled, cellar, room and warm temps. No head, dark amber. Looks and smells like true cherry juice. Tastes like it as well, but with malt and some alcohol and spices to back it up. Not bad. I prefer it at cellar to room temp. Heated it would be terrific in the winter but don’t inhale. The fumes made me cough. gsteph (263), knoxville, Tennessee, USA Aug 18, 2004 2002 Edition. Nice deep reddish mahoganny color. Heated over double boiler. Thin white head that was gone almost immediately. Bing cherries with cinnamon and nutmeg along with others (typical mulling spices). Very cherry flavor with warming spice (cinnamon, nutmeg, etc.), sweet and sour with a little alcohol bite right at the finish. Definitely a winter brew for sipping. Difficult to finish in one sitting. 0o9i (326), Reno, Nevada, USA Aug 15, 2004 Bottled. Apparently my rating didn’t go through with this beer, sadly. Cherry red, smallish head with red hues and no lacing. Preferred over ice(most refreshing, almost like bing cherry nectar with a kick); most rich and spicy warmed. Rich cherry aroma and flavor, full body, dry and to be savored one small serving at a time. Very dry, rich black cherry flavor and spicy, not overly sweet and a very special brew indeed. Sven (229), Lancaster, California, USA Aug 14, 2004 Updated: Sep 2, 2004Tried this one at all three recommended temperatures, I think I preferred room temp the best. While hot the cherry and spice made me think of winter and mulling spices, and while cold I found many flavors indistinguishable and merely.. cold. At room temp the flavors seemed to meld the best and all aspects seemed to be equally shared. A nice balance of hop and malt, sweet and sour, well rounded and full. Goblincat (356), Westland, Michigan, USA Aug 13, 2004 Sampled chilled: body is a nice deep red with no head. Nose is very cherry with some spice. Flavor is very much like eating a fresh cherry. It masks the alcohol very well. Mouthfeel is thick and it lines the mouth with every taste. steview (901), Los Angeles, California, USA Aug 13, 2004 Updated: Sep 5, 2004trappist glass: cold, hot, or cellar temp. this is excellent. wood, alcohol, cherry, and fizz. this is choice. cheers! UPDATE 9/4/04: from the bottle, insane party ambience: cherry wine forever lost in time! Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Aug 7, 2004 Pours dark red like a bing cherry...smells like cherry and alcohol...smells very complex...taste is complex too...cherries and Robitussin...I love Unibroue’s beers, but this one I cannot finish...Aroma, appearance, flavor, and palate all are rated quite high...but overall this is a most unbearable drink... MullMan (1080), Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA Aug 4, 2004 COLD reddish copper color. lightly cloudy. thin lacing ring at edge of glass. nose is sour cherry, ranier? taste is sweet then dark cherry flavor. faint carbonation. faint tawny flavor with sweet & vinuous exit.
HOT reddish tawny color, reddish tan super thin head. like a mulled cider covering. nose of mulled spices, white pepper, alcohol & brandied cherries. watery start, like heated cherry cider simmered in cherry brandy. alcohol flavor more separated. sweetness gone. light alcohol finish. clove nose & flavor.
cold is my preference.
