kepano (239), Meudon, France Mar 13, 2008 Clear vermilion in color, Quelque Chose lights up with fiery orange highlights, passionate but devoid of any froth. Perky, the aroma conveys its intent, a warming beverage for the winter months, keenly expressing the brumal flavors. Spices are the cynosure, a pumpkin pie blend of cinnamon, nutmeg, cardamom, clove and allspice. Cherries are explicit too, sometimes candy-like but plenty of fruit is apparent. Brown sugar, speculoos, wild strawberry and a remarkable hint of smokiness add beautiful layers of complexity. Slight whiffs of alcohol enhance the experience, implying the solicited warmth. The carbonation is subdued, enjoyably so, and the evident sweetness is never cloying. Cherry candy, an almost Swedish Fishy experience is at the forefront. The spices are insinuated, and take on a minty piny Ricola effect. Honey, pear and subtle sourness are pleasant. I fear I might be under the sugar’s charm. This 2002 bottle is well aged showing excellent balance and complexity, but I might have spoken too soon, Quelque Chose might be just a little too sweet. (13/04/2007)
yobdoog (1429), Woodridge NY, New York, USA Nov 4, 2009 Ruby red color with minimal head. Aroma has some tart cherry and some sweet cherry. Flavor is all cherry with the right amount of tartness. Not medicinal and has a nice body and great finish. polomagnifico (532), Saginaw, Michigan, USA Oct 24, 2009 Bottle. Aroma has notes of cherries, cinnamon, nutmeg, and autum spices. Medium dark reddish brown hue with no head. Flavor is sweet and a tiny bit sour with a nice holiday spice finish. Palate is full/medium bodied and flat. Very good flavor and aroma but the palate sucks without carbonation even if that was intended. Mix this with a belgium strong and they’d have something. Sammer (23), Plano, Texas, USA Oct 24, 2009 Great fruit beer. Served at room temperature. Dark red in color, cherries and spices on the nose. Palate is hit with both sweetness and some sour notes, with a warm alcohol finish. Excellent, and next time I’ll try it warm / hot. blaheath (16), Missouri, USA Oct 4, 2009 Served hot.
Red/brown in color with minimal carbonation and aromas of sour cherries and spice. Taste is light in body, oily, sweet cherry, nutmeg, and a sweet average finish. neepsntatties (285), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 15, 2009 Got two bottles of this vintage) at Gold Rush Liquors in Anchorage, during a visit there this past August. Colour...orange though almost red, with scarcely any head. Nose... sweet pie cherries and the pie sirup to boot! Palate... still nicely carbonated, sweet, coating, loads of cherry character and plenty of cinnamon. Truly a dessert in a glass. A joy to drink! thirdeye11 (416), Texas, USA Aug 21, 2009 (750ml bottle, 4 year old vintage) Pours orange-red with no head. Smell is sweet gingerbread, and tart cherries. Taste is also tart, and lots of cinnamon. No carbonation in this one, has a sweet linger and an alcoholic finish. Very enjoyable actually. drowland (1360), Tallahassee, Florida, USA Aug 17, 2009 Snagged a bottle while in Chicago to drink in the hotel... it’s okay. Somewhat subtle in the fruitiness, but very thick, almost syrupy, and very low carbonation. Cavie (1318), Fort Worth, Texas, USA Aug 4, 2009 Dark reddish orange. Cherries right off the bat on the nose, as well as tart lambic type fruit. Tart flavor, sour at first that eases into a sweet fruit finish. The upfront is a bit tight but the flavor is quite nice. This particular bottle had been aged 4 years.
