Sour spicy, cloves and pepper, similar to Liefmans Glukriek. Bitter and full texture. I agree with Oakes it’s good cold too. Superb! drismyhero (815), Tacoma, Washington, USA

This beer at room temp is loaded with cherries, packed with a decent amount of cloves and spice, and finishes surprisingly tart. Over ice, this is about as refreshing as alchohol comes (it"s freezing outside presently so I don"t have much to go by, but I can imagine); the spice is almost undetectable, but the cherries taste fresh as ever with a great deal of soothing sourness (that may sound like an oxymoron but it"s really true). And finally: hot, this is really amazing. The Cloves are on full frontal assault followed by a wonderful swell of [now sweet] cherry. You know those old Goofy cartoons where he gets hurt skiing and a big St.Bernard comes with a barrel full of alchohol around its neck? This is what they should have been carrying. iwantalambic (1389), St. Louis, Missouri, USA

My nostrils tingle with delight as I lean over the pot and I know it is time to sip. . . deeply sour and bitter cherries, slightly acidic, but smooth no less. Wonderfully warm and relaxing on a very chilly December night. Several other spices are noticeable in the after-taste along with some bitter hops. Warm ale, who would have thought, delicious! 9/4/8/4/17
500 mL bottle, corked and caged [2002 version, sampled June 2005, served over ice]: hazed mahogany…most of the carbonation has been lost. Minimal cherry skin and leather aroma with hints of blueberries and anise. Crisp and outrageously refreshing mouth feel with a heavy spice, kicking with cinnamon, all spice, dusty black pepper, and cardamom. After taste is thick with fruity ale essence and a light bitterness…I would say that the aroma suffers the most when served this way, but enjoyment is equal due to the wonderful refreshment on a hot early summer eve. An amazingly versatile and tasty beer. 6/4/8/4/18 YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 14, 2002 Wow, we tried it first at room temperature and then warmed up. By room temperature it smelled a lot like marcipan, jelly gingerbread filling and cinnamon. Warmed up it smelled like mulled wine at the christmas markets but also very sour and spicey. Color red, no carbonation, no head. Flavor at room temperature was a light cherry taste with hints of sourness and behind staying alcohol. Long lasting semi sweet finish. Warm: Flavor was very sour, mulled- wine like but better, because it wasn’t that heavy (mulled wine for me only in small quantities as after two mugs I have the feeling to throw up the sweet stuff). You also taste more alcohol then it’s warm. The heating procedure itself is fun and makes it a cool winter/christmas beer!

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Apr 22, 2006 Bottle. Dark, red color, nice whitish head. Lovely cherry aroma. Very flavorful, stong cherries, yeast and a very warming alcohol afterburn. Drank it moderately cold (I can’t drink hot beer either, after having hot pilsners in Germany!). | 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Feb 23, 2004 Updated: Oct 14, 20042002 500mL bottle. Sampled at about 90-95 degrees. Magnificent appearance, lightly hazy red with some cinnamon browns and some lighter bright reds as well. Small to no head, but slightly off-white when present. Smells of cherries, cinnamon, allspice, faint clove. Yum. Flavor begins with a lightly sour/bitter cherry flavor, add in some lightly malted barley flavor and a big punch of mulled cider spices on the finish. Cherry flavor is not overly sweet, overpowering or anything. The warm beer flavor is new, but I like it. Couldnt really pick out much in the way of hops, but it had a warm bready flavor as well. Very intersting and I will certainly try it at cellar temp soon. Rerate. 02 bottle slightly chilled. Wow, this is much fuller and sweeter, but the spices remain deliciously rolled in to the overall picture. Sweet but not quite syrupy. I can't decide which I prefer. My friend had a bottle and had it warmed before we drank it. Poured a deep red with a pinkish head. Nose is cherry and spice. The taste is more of the same but with the spice standing out further(clove and cinnamon or nutmeg?). Very tasty beer. I can see having this with cheesecake. When warmed this is fantastic. Would like to try this at room temps or colder to see if there is a big difference. Great beer!
