3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from bottle into a tulip glass
Appearance – The beer pours a deep hazy orange-amber color with a one finger head of billowy white foam. The head has a fantastic level of retention, slowly fading to leave a moderate level of lace on the sides of the glass.
Smell – The aroma of the beer is quite heavy of a fruity nature consisting mainly of apple and pear as well as a nice banana smell. Along with these aromas are some yeasty smells as well as a nice big and bold smoky smell. A lighter whiskey and roasted bread smell are there as well, overall producing a rather toasty and fruity smell.
Taste – The taste begins with a lightly toasted malt flavor along a hint of the fruitiness of apple and pear that was detected in the nose. A little bit of smoke is present upfront with it growing slightly stronger more toward the middle of the flavor profile. Like the smoke, a yeasty flavor also develops more and more as the flavor advances with it bringing a little bit of banana and orange. The yeast and smoke kick it up more toward the end of the taste, with the fruits that were present initially fading a bit. In the end, with a little bit of grass and hay coming to the tongue, one is left with a semi-sweet but somewhat lighter malted but rather smoked and yeasty flavor to linger on the tongue.
Mouthfeel – The body of the beer is on the thinner and lighter side with a carbonation level that is full of tons of little prickly carbonation bubbles. For the lighter fruit and yeasty flavors, the carbonation is fantastic, really nice complementing them. The smoky flavors however, are at a loss to some extent due to the high carbonation and thin body, so overall the feel is just OK.
Overall – Now don’t get me wrong. This is a good brew, but it falls a little short of the other Unibroue beers I have had thus far. Certainly a worthy beer to take down (as it really does out compete most in the class) although I feel my expectations were a bit too high and hence I was slightly disappointed.

Orange cloudy pour from tap at Longroom. White head peach and orange sweet taste. Very fruity. Decent for a style I don't like

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft to taster at Ei8ht Ball. Looks solid; a slightly hazy dark golden orange with white head that steadily dissipates into lacing. Smells of Belgian yeast and related spices with some mild citrus hop notes; I don’t get smoke though. Tastes like it smells with an average mouthfeel. This is more of a Belgian Pale Ale than a smoked beer; I get no smoke whatsoever (and it’s classified in the database as a Smoked).

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Draft. Unique beer that is mostly odminated by the Unibroue yeast. Lots of esters, some light smoke/toastines form the malt.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
750mL, corked and caged, BB 03-06-16. Nose is sweet and malty, somewhat spicy, with that great and easily identifiable Unibroue yeast. Doesn’t gush, doesn’t even move a millimeter, but the foamy, noisy off-white head occupies about 90% of the glass even on a careful pour; resolves to an orange-leaning, clear golden body with somewhat above-average carbonation. Thin body but waves of malt and some above average complexity, very light darker thrusts of malt with heather and lavender in the background, and I might even imagine some spruce or juniper, but at this point I’m imagining a different beer. No alcohol, smooth and easy-going, crisp and refreshing with light berries and fainter cherries, but no sign of smoke. Another good one, if misleading.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap half pint at Gilly's Beer & Fine Wine in Rockville, MD.
Very hazy, dusty amber with a small off-white head and sparse lacing. (Interestingly, the bottled version I tried in Quebec had an enormous head and nice lacing.)
Aroma of light fruit, coriander, caramel, lemon, yeast, spice and orange.
Taste of caramel, coriander, lemon, orange, apple, yeast and mild spices.
Medium/light body and medium/high carbonation with a slightly foamy mouthfeel.
I'm not detecting much smoke here, but it is still a rather nice, fruity Belgian pale ale.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 ml bottle into tulip glass, best before 3/6/2016. Pours lightly hazy deep orange copper color with a 2 finger dense and fluffy off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Nice dense foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big peach, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, clove, caramel, toast, bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good complexity and balance of fruity/earthy yeast and moderate dark/bready malt notes; with good strength. Taste of apricot, peach, pear, apple, light banana, clove, caramel, toast, bread, light pepper, herbal, and yeast earthiness. Fair amount of earthy yeast spiciness on the finish; with lingering notes of peach, apricot, pear, apple, light banana, clove, caramel, toast, bread, herbal, light pepper, and yeast earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice robustness and complexity of fruity/earthy yeast and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; with a great malt/yeast balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium-high carbonation and medium bodied; with a very smooth, crisp, and lightly bready mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish as expected of 5.5%. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian pale ale. All around good complexity, robustness, and balance of fruity/earthy yeast and moderate dark/bready malt flavors; and very smooth and crisp to drink. A very enjoyable offering.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Nowhere near enough smoke for a smoked beer but I still really liked it. Fruit, yeast and spices over a caramel malt backbone.

Hazy dark amber thin offwhite lacy head; crisp tangy malty aroma; Flava is subtly malty sweet hint of spice roasty smoked grain; feels light with fizziness up front; finishes tangy malty and some citrusy tartness at end
