3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours a nice hazy orange colour with a foamy white head. Aroma is yeasty, esters, grain, biscuit, floral hops, spice. The flavour more or less suit, heavy on the bread and grain notes, mixed with some spice, and orange citrus hops. Not bad, but there are better options.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
341ml bottle. Clear copper-amber body, small white head, average retention. Aroma of spices and Unibroue yeast, caramel, honey, citrus and some booze. Harsh taste: caramel, yeast, spices, herbal hops, booze. Oily. Slightly disappointing.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy orange with a moderate tan head that remains and laces well. The nose has flowers, spice, caramel, fruit and that typical Unibroue yeast aroma. The flavour is moderately sweet with caramel, fruit and vanilla, along with a moderate amount of Belgian-style spice. Banana comes through. Hops are delicate and unobtrusive but emerge towards the end. The finish is long, malty and spicy with a slight pepperiness. On the palate, it is medium in body with a smooth, syrupy texture and average carbonation. Overall, this is a nice Belgian-style strong ale with a nice fruity character and a beautiful creamy head. 2013-06-18

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle, shared with Parksy and Davey. Hazy light orange-gold with a lively creamy white head. Signature Unibroue yeast in the aroma, which I’ve come to find feels homey after not having had a Unibroue beer for a while. Sweet vanilla biscuits, wheat, honey, light phenolic spiciness. Just what I wanted from this!

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a hazy orange golden color with a pretty decent long lasting bubbly white head. Nose of banana, citrus, pears cloves and other spices and the standard yeast smell. Medium body with a creamy mouthfeel. Taste is a bit sweet with a phenol finish. Great as usual for unibroue.

750ml brown bottle, corked. Honey gold pour, hazy. Keeps a medium sized white cap, a few patches of lace sticking in the glass. Nose has yeast, honey, biscuity malt, grain, orange, caramel. Taste has bread, grain, sweet malt, citrus notes. Yeast with clove notes, caramel and orangey hops at the end. Medium body with lots of carbonation. Overall a nice beer with some interesting spice notes.

Unibroue is far and away my favorite brewery in Canada. Being opened by Sapporo doesn’t hurt them in any way. Just awesome in every bottle.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Entirely Belgian in character, but not what I expected. It’s a blend of styles. The appearance and ABV suggest that it would be similar to a Dubbel, but the flavor has more dark fruits, raisins, and some vanilla. Almost like a lighter-bodied variation of a Quad. Complex and enjoyable.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Poured from a 750ml bottle into my Chimay glass. Wow, nice aroma. Initital notes are citrus: orange, tangerine and mandarin. Also a good amount of spice. Not too big, but seems like a good amount. Appearance is a good murky burnt orange, with a whitish head that looks like it will last for days. Taste isn’t quite as good as the aroma. The spice comes through in the taste and the aftertaste, but no real distinguishing feature otherwise. It’s good, but not super impressive. Feel is also good, but not really, really full bodied. There’s a nice tingle all the way through, though.
