The_Jester (444), Peterborough, Ontario, Canada Jan 26, 2008 750 mL bottle. (2005 vintage). Translucent amber-orange with a small but persistent head. Nice aroma of sweet citrus, mild spice, and yeast. The flavour is quite sweet, with peach and orange being prominent, along with mild brown spice, bread, and the Unibroue yeast. Medium body and medium to high carbonation. Decent. I’ll try it again.
LooseCannon (581), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jul 12, 2008 750ml bottle, Best by 07/31/09. Pours cloudy orangish amber in color with full foamy light brown head. Aroma sweet, hoppy and yeasty. Taste spicey, yeasty and fruity with dry finish. nhorween (483), New York, New York, USA Jul 12, 2008 Bottle, cork and cage. Hazy orange-brown pour with a big (eggy?) head. Caramel nose, hops, banana, citrus, mustard. Some alcohol comes through. Belgian yeast and candi sugar everywhere - honey, apples, some toffee, lightly toasty. Spicy finish, quite peppery. Well crafted, not fantastic. Heathen (455), Riverside, New Jersey, USA Jul 6, 2008 THOUGHTS: One of the few Uni’s that I saw and didn’t pick up the first time I saw it. I finally found it again. A lot like the others. Good beer, but unlike the others there isn’t anything that really sets it apart other than its super sweetness. Seemed a little skunked but not enough to really hurt it beyond the point of rating it. When I finally added the yeast the flavor was a little less sweet.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a dark coppery orange with nice carbonation and an average-sized, off-white head that mostly diminished and left fair lacing. The aroma was very sweet. There was moderate caramel malt, light yeast, candy, apricot, slight skunk and maybe some brown sugar. The initial flavor was light to moderately sweet and lightly acidic; while the finish was heavily sweet and lightly acidic with an average duration. There was mostly caramel, apricots, slight skunk, candy and yeast. The medium body was slightly syrupy, but mostly dry with fizzy carbonation and a light astringent, light alcoholic and ever so slightly metallic finish. allfreej (265), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Jun 29, 2008 750-ml bottle. Poured cloudy orangy gold, with a nice tan head. Nose was yeasty, spicy (coriander), and citrusy (lemon). The flavor was sweet (honey notes), yeasty, spicy, caramel. Very complex with a number of flavors detectable. The finish was dry and just slightly tart. The mouthfeel was firm and nicely carbonated. One of my favorite Unibroue offerings, and I was happy to finally locate a local source. Skyview (2641), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Jun 28, 2008 Sampled during Cellar’s Wine & Spirits Wednesday evening tasting via Unibroue representative. Pours a hazy orange amber brew with a thick off-white head that has some nice retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel and multi-grain malt, some dark hard fruits, a touch of vanilla and some pineapple. Taste is medium bodied, light carbonated with flavors matching its aroma with some light peach. Finish is semi-sweet with a mild malt and fruit aftertaste that slowly disappears.
