Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

(Draught at The Libertine) Pours dark brown with nice 1 finger head and tight bubbles. No lacing to speak of and head dissipates as it warms to nothing eventually. Nose of figs, Belgian yeast, and alcohol. Taste is light chocolate notes, alcohol which doesn’t burn, and over-ripened bananas. A little under-carbonated maybe, and slightly on the thin side.

UTP pours black with a large beige head that settles quickly into a fuzzy little blanket. It looks thinner than a stout despite its color. The aroma contains mild vinegar combined with the smell of canned fruit cocktail. The taste carries a nice tart punch countered with plum and dark cherries. The body is medium and the finish is full of flavor. The carbonation is just right and carries the whole beer through the palate with a nice feel.

Deep, rich coloration. Very smooth. Fine carbonation. Nice depth of flavors in this Belgian style beer.

Aroma: Aroma of slightly sour, dark fruits, raisins, dates, some boozy port, roasted malts, spice, and yeast
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a slight orange touch and a fizzy beige head
Flavor: Taste is somewhat sweet and quite malty, pretty complex, fruity, but with some balance
Palate: The mouthfeel is quite fizzy, with a bit of an alcohol feel and a relatively full body
Overall Impression: Overall this one does a nice job of emphasizing some of the best parts of the Belgian beer style. It really just does a nice job of showing off that nice Belgian style that it is aiming for, so for that reason I’d like to say "well done."

Cloudy reddish-brown body with a nice rich head. The smell is typical for Unibroue, but with its own darker character (cherry, plum, red grape). The flavour is very intense; sweet, yeasty and fruity. The finish lingers with a port-wine character and some breadiness. The alcohol is very well-masked in this one, and the mouthfeel is extremely pleasant. Great one!

What a beautiful beer, so smooth, deep brown and sparkling all at the same time. My biggest issue is with the nose; much harder to discern than the flavor would suggest. Heavy, burnt straw, brown sugar malts with light perfumey hops. I didn’t catch the Port or the ripe fruit. But I’m no professional. Unibroue holds up its rep. on this one!
