It looks thinner than a stout despite its color. The aroma contains mild vinegar combined with the smell of canned fruit cocktail. The taste carries a nice tart punch countered with plum and dark cherries. The body is medium and the finish is full of flavor. The carbonation is just right and carries the whole beer through the palate with a nice feel. ttutony (27), Texas, USA

Aroma: Aroma of slightly sour, dark fruits, raisins, dates, some boozy port, roasted malts, spice, and yeast
Appearance: It pours a dark brown color with a slight orange touch and a fizzy beige head
Flavor: Taste is somewhat sweet and quite malty, pretty complex, fruity, but with some balance
Palate: The mouthfeel is quite fizzy, with a bit of an alcohol feel and a relatively full body
Overall Impression:
Overall this one does a nice job of emphasizing some of the best parts of the Belgian beer style. It really just does a nice job of showing off that nice Belgian style that it is aiming for, so for that reason I’d like to say "well done."

The smell is typical for Unibroue, but with its own darker character (cherry, plum, red grape). The flavour is very intense; sweet, yeasty and fruity. The finish lingers with a port-wine character and some breadiness. The alcohol is very well-masked in this one, and the mouthfeel is extremely pleasant. Great one! camist (3), Charlotte, North Carolina, USA does not count | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 11, 2009 a bodacious belgian beer that tastes like a port wine and will knock you on your ass after a few of them! thebusstop (15), New York, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 16/20 | Nov 10, 2009 What a beautiful beer, so smooth, deep brown and sparkling all at the same time. My biggest issue is with the nose; much harder to discern than the flavor would suggest. Heavy, burnt straw, brown sugar malts with light perfumey hops. I didn’t catch the Port or the ripe fruit. But I’m no professional. Unibroue holds up its rep. on this one! coldmeat23 (185), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Nov 10, 2009 Dark, dark red. Almost looks black, it’s so dark. Very nice indeed. Totally minimal tan head, which rapidly dissipates to almost nothing.
Smell is also dark. Filled with dark fruit notes. Most prominently, red grapes and black cherries. Slight sweet maltiness. Butter and sugar. Hints of toast.
Tastes of malts and dark fruits. Cherries, figs, plums and red grapes. Sweet and yeasty & rich and spicy.
Feels amazingly good. Lots of nice tiny bubbles. Creamy and sweet and delicious.
Highly drinkable brew here. Nice, sweet, easy drinking. Unibroue does it again.
