RedSox2004 (353), Pacific Palisades, California, USA Jun 7, 2009 Outstanding effort from Canada. Pours chocolate brown, almost opaque, with a thick, enduring head. Solid retention and intricate lacing all the way down. Aroma is of cherries, yeast, and certainly some alcohol. Some fruity flavors - raisins, plums, figs - and yes, more alcohol.
arbonation that dances on the tongue, smooth, silky mouthfeel. Lingering aftertaste of dark fruit.
bblack99 (197), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Jun 6, 2009 Heavily carbonated pour with a bubbly white head that lasts for literally seconds before disappearing entirely with very little lacing.
Brownish burgundy pour with a nose of yeast and fruits. Flavor is strongly dominated by raisins and plums, which is not at all expected (nor pleasant).
Overly fizzy, overly fruity, and overly slick. Consider me unimpressed, Canada. Cirrhosis (610), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 5, 2009 Massive popping sound came from the cork when opened (scared me a little) dark mahogany body almost completely black, huge rocky head with descent retention and spotty lacing. Caramel, vanilla, grapes, wood and a nice alcohol presence warm the nose as the aroma is taken in, very pleasant indeed. Sour and rich tasting, wood, nuts, red wine, and the typical Unibroue yeast comprise the flavor. The 9% alc. Content is hidden will but is noticeable, the brew is light to medium bodied and maybe slightly over carbonated the taste finishes with a mild bitterness. Very enjoyable and high quality, this brew is just one of the reasons Unibroue is highly sot after. Barreras (121), Diamond Bar, California, USA Jun 4, 2009 Updated: Aug 17, 2009Pours a pepsi cola color with carbonation bubbles mixed in. Look ominously dark but is surprisingly refreshing in taste. Notes of fruit, and a hint of wine in the taste. This beer goes down very smoothly and the 9 percent will catch you off guard. oucontractor (3), Norman, Oklahoma, USA does not count Jun 3, 2009 Poured like a soft drink and looked like cola. Had an aroma of fruits. There was an overbearing flavor of liquorice. dmschefke (371), Eastpointe, Michigan, USA May 31, 2009 12oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a bubbly head that dissipates faster than any brew I have ever seen. Almost looks like I am pouring a cola. Aroma of roasted malt, dried fruits, yeast, banana, and caramel. Flavor is similar with the addition of a bit of sweetness, chocolate, and a slight tartness. Mouthfeel is not my style, since it is very fizzy and slick. Maybe I need to try the 750 to truly understand this one. daleharshman (181), San Diego, California, USA May 29, 2009 Bottle from Pacific Liquor in North Park (San Diego, CA). Pours a dark brown with ruby highlights and a thick beige head which quickly disappears. Very cola-like in appearance. Sweet aroma of yeast, dark malts, and stone fruit (plum and cherry). Caramel malty flavor with nice mild sweetness. Additional complex flavors -- yeast and I get some cherry and other fruit. A bit of smooth chocolate is also present toward the finish. The 9% goes down very easy. An excellent beer. donfardz64 (406), Wellington, New Zealand May 27, 2009 355mL bottle from www.Beerstore.co.nz. Pours deep, deep ruby red. Fizzy tan head, dissipates quickly. Very sexy.
Aroma is very fruity, boysenberries and coriander herbs are strong. Can smell some sugar sweetness, very nice aroma.
Flavour initially reminds me of a tripel, but then mellows out to a yeasty flavour. Once warm there’s a bit more body to it. Slightly astringent. Nice berry like finish.
Didn’t live up to the big expectations, but still a very nice beer.
