Habanero (610), Tranbjerg, Denmark Feb 27, 2009 Bottle. Pours mahogany with a nice, creamy head. Nose of port and prune. Tasty flavour with berries, spices and mild malt. Dry finish. Very enjoyable and complex. webbcreative (111), , Oklahoma, USA Feb 26, 2009 Poured Black, with a little hint of dark brown when held directly into the light. Nice 3 finger head, that didnt hang around too long.
Smell is really nice, some kind of fruit and spice.
Taste is really, really, really nice. In addition the mouthfeel is wonderful, creamy and smooth. Alcohol is hidden well in this one, but enough to warm you in the end. I can taste some kind of fruit and spice. Malt and hops are balanced really well in this one, not bitter at all.
Overall this is a great brew! Would definitely get this one again. Highly enjoyable. jcwattsrugger (5223), Florida and, New Jersey, USA Feb 17, 2009 on tap @Brass Tap near Tampa-pours a light tan ring for a head with some lacing and dark brown color. Aroma is dark malt, clove, some clove, some dark fruit-raisin. Taste is dark malt-molasses, then plenty of clove, some dark fruit-raisin, yeast-banana. Slight herbal hops. PJCummings (3), Stuttgart, Germany does not count Feb 17, 2009 Poured from the bottle into a wine glass. Started with a solid 1" head, but it fell quicker than I expected it would. Slightly sweet aroma. Very dark color. The flavor is good, but the aftertaste is better. I couldn’t taste the "port wine" per the bottle, but it was fairly robust. Well balanced, a la Trappist styles. Rustyham (545), miami, Florida, USA Feb 16, 2009 A wonderful, nice, quick, and non presumptuous belgian with a strong berry twist. I like that this holds up to the style without using the common dark pitted fruits. This is crisp and clean, great with a red juicy steak, maybe skirt. IPAaLLtHEwAY (136), La Crosse, Wisconsin, USA Feb 15, 2009 I am not actually leaving a comment, this is me opting out of that. However there are a minimum number of characters i must type so... You should all worship heavy metal! sersdf (1000), chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 15, 2009 plum brown red with head. super carbonated with lots of bubbles racing up the sides. can’t believe i’ve never rated this before. unfortunately the glass i’m drinking it form has had like six beers in it before it, unrinsed. smells immediately of alcohol, but there’s plenty going on here. i smell balance, a with dark fruit, bread, and caramel. it’s a little too carbonated for it’s own good. obviously the same yeast flavor that exists in every unibroue beer. the flavor is strong up front but without a big malt base. i’m too distracted to write a meaningful rating further.
Thylacine (237), Tasmania, Australia Feb 14, 2009 Bottle - Murky dark reddish brown with thin beige head. Fruity aroma. Medium carbonation. Full bodied. Smooth. Malty with rich flavours of dark fruits and a touch of alcohol. Sweet. More spicy than hoppy in the finish.
