COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Almost black in color. When held up to the light, it has a slightly red glot to it. Large frothy head that began to fizzle away immediately. Fruity aroma with a complex taste of fruits, spices and a bit of yeast.

UPDATED: JAN 12, 2004 Red brown color, cloudy, frothy head. Excellent lacing. Cherry aroma. Fairly thin for such a strong beer. Cherry flavor, rather alcoholic with vanilla and a hint of sourness. A better thirst quencher as you might expect with the high alcohol content. Good beer, but IMO doesn't deserve the high rating. Or did I miss something? Re-rate: tap Café Morshuis Albergen. Buttery aroma and flavor. Apple. The high ABV is hardly noticed. Butterscotch. Diacetyl. Likeable but better from the bottle. The above rating is for the bottled version.

This beer pours a really dark amber color with a medium dingy head that fades quickly. The aroma is very sweet and promising of a good taste. Upon first taste, this reminds me of a very sweet wheat beer. It has hints of fruit in the taste and the carbonation is very apparent when drinking, but overall it reminds me of a really smooth wheat beer. It is not excessively smooth to drink and it is pretty flavorfull. I could not see myself drinking more than one of these at a sitting because of the fullness of the flavor and the fact that I am not too fond of it. Nothing special about it in my opinion.

Attractive dark color. Fruity aroma with a like flavor. Has a raisin like taste. Sweet, has notes similair to a Port wine. Not being a Port wine lover, I'll take this anyday.

Murky medium brown red colour with a smallish tan head. Fortified vinous, malty and lighter citric sour with hint of yeast aroma. Low carb but decent mouth filling body. Medium low bitter, higher fruity honeycomb and caramel malt flavours. Lovely lifting sharp but still sweetish finish and aftertaste.

Opened up nicely after warming. Murky brown, with a thin tan head. Aroma is of sweet, fruity malts. Flavor is accentuated by alcohol warmth. Again, dark, sweet fruits hit home here, with hints of grape and caramel developing as the beer warms. Kind of thin-bodied, but the complexity makes up for this fact.

Caramel colored beer. Nice looking. Sweet aroma. Raisen, caramel, and grape flavors bursting through my mouth. An awesome beer with great quality from our neighbors to the north. My favorite from Uni!

Dark tan head, nice laceing hanging on. Beautiful clear amber color with ruby highlights. Fruity spicey nose , some alc. also. Body is med/full , nice mouthfeel, carbonation is a little high. Fruity , yeasty , earthy notes, some cinnamon, vanilla, lots going on. Finish is dry and fruity. Need to lay some down.

I enjoyed this but don't think it lives up to the hype. I don't think Unibroue is capable of making a bad beer.

Beer pours (in Chimay glass) a very dark red-brown with head disapearing to absolutely nothing. Aroma is of sweet apricot, plum. Flavor is cherry, woody, alcoholicy. Beer is ok. Nothing special. Sampled at 73 degrees Fahrenheit.
