| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Jan 8, 2009 Pours a super dark reddish brown (into a chalice, seemed much lighter as it reached the bottom)with a large foamy peach tan head that has poor retention but fades to a nice thick skin. Aroma is cherry, lime, plum, spicy yeast, citrus hops, and black tea. Flavor is unique and interesting, yeasty orange glazed dinner rolls up front, a little roast, caramel, dark chocolate covered cherries, fresh rye bread, belgian yeast spiciness, a musty earty note and some funk. FInish is pepper spice, orange zest, citrus hops and some mellow sort of old tasting bitter hops and a sort of spicy, citrus, roast and chocolate aftertaste. Body is light to medium with a great fizzy carbonation level (not too heavy or or light bubbles, just the right intensity) and a slightly sticky feel on the lips. This is really a fantastic beer, Narnad (689), Wonder Lake, Illinois, USA
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 7, 2009 Pours a very dark brown with some reddish notes in the light. A frothy white head forms when poured and has a medium carbonation level. The aroma reminds me of a very strong red wine, lots of fruit notes, some cherry and plum, mixed with some caramel malt tones. Flavor has a lot of dark plum and cherry notes, some spicy flavors, sweet caramel malt appears to be there as well but it’s not overwhelmingly present. The light mouth feel really emphasizes the alcohol present in this beer. Overall a great beer from a great brewery. ironchefscott (342), portland, Oregon, USA
