Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

12oz bottle from Racetrack Liquors (Tampa, FL). Pours a dark brown to black with one finger tan head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma is sweet malt, raisins, figs, dark ripe fruit, yeast. Flavor is sweet and malty with sharp notes of plums, prunes, yeast and spice. Medium body with a sweet malt finish.

Deep brown walnut color with a thick tan head. Rich aroma of carmelized apple, prunes, orange and spicy tannins. Excellent flavor- light spice, dried fruits. Sweet without being cloying or syrupy. Nice body. A bit of alcohol bite in the finish and woody notes. Gets better as it warms and oxidates.

Bottle at bar Becolth, Boxtel (NL). A dark brown colored beer, with a dark beige head. The aroma of dark malts, cherries, little chocolate and port-like. The taste of dark fruits, like prume and dark cherries. als a little woody. A nice gentle aftertaste of everything I mentioned. A very good beer.

Dark, rich and sweet. Lots of ripe raisin and other dark fruit in aroma. Very lively carbonation. Easily tasty at first but gets cloying. Alcohol warmth is a bit of relief from the sweetness. Honestly I think this would be a middling abbey beer over in Belgium.

12oz bottle. Pours almost black. Small head, no lasting lacing. Call me crazy, but this beer tastes like kielbasa!?!?! This strangeness is present in the smell, but the taste is like eating a sausage full-out. Perhaps the place where I buy Unibroue has been holding onto this brand way too long, because every beer I try from them tastes like garbage.

Pours an opaque black with a nice off-white head which lasts a while, but unfortunately didn’t leave much lacing. 2nd pour from the 22 oz bottle (about an hour later, re-corked) had no head at all. Quite sweet aroma. Fizzy mouthfeel and low bitterness. Somewhat sweet, carbonated and malty, but not roasted like a stout. Easy to drink, but a sipper, not a guzzler. At 9% this hits hard after a while, but doesn’t have a strong alcohol taste during enjoyment. Reminds me of the Schneider Aventinus doppelboch, in it’s Coca-Cola like sweetness, carbonation and darkness. Another winner from the always great Unibroue.

Bottle at Ĺrhus Řlfestival 2008. Pours brown with red edges and a very small head. Aroma is fruity with raisins and with a hint of chocolate and roasted malt. Flavour is fruity with raisins, and again with a hint of roasted malts and bitter chocolate.

Trappist glass.Pours a dark brown with a beige head, poor lacing on the head. Smells of raisins primarly with other fruits coming in. Slight alcohol burn at first with a small amout of welcomed bitterness much like pecans in the aftertaste. Im glad i found this beer.
