Commercial Description:
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Aroma of dried fruit and caramel as well as a bit of alcohol. Huge, slowly fading head. ABV is well hidden but the finish is quite alcoholic.

750ml pours a very dark amber with a good tan head. Nice palate with flavors of fruits & malts. Goes down smooth.

Here’s an honest confession: I rate all of the beers I try, not against each other, but how much I enjoy them. That said, this is not a style I typically seek out, but I can still appreciate the effort that went into this one. Appearance: dark cloudy brown with a long lasting thin head. No lace. Smell: Malty, as would be expected. I enjoy the spiciness (corriander?) in the aroma. I am pleasantly surprised by pleasant yeast smells. Typically, I find that these detract rather than contribute (like this one). Taste: More sweet than alcohol oily. In fact, this is rich and full-bodied even for the style. Strong candy sugar flavors and virtually no hop. This brew has an unusually high carbonation. Again, the yeast adds pleasant flavors and a touch of spiciness. I would say that the body is the strongest attribute. I am also surprised at the lack of apparent alcohol, although this ale has 9% content.

750ml bottle poured into a tulip glass produced a thin tan head and dark brown body. Aroma of white grapes and grapefruit. Very pleasant and sweet with flavors of raisins, grapes, citrus, and a hint of caramel with a tinge of bitterness in the finish. This ale lacked the flavor and complexity of most Belgian Ales.

0,33L bottle. Sweet aroma of alcohol, raisin, concord grape. Appearance reddish black. Heavy, slick palate. Lingers sweet in the stomach, like after Halloween.

12 oz bottle. Pours a dark brown with a thick tan head. Aroma is fruit and yeast. The taste is black cherry, figs, spices, and dark chocolate. Very complex, alcohol is well hidden. A very good Belgian strong ale.

750mL bottle - pours a dark reddish-brown, into chalice. Aroma is malts, raisins, figs. Flavour is very complex. Hands down, one of my all-time favourites. A class beer from Unibroue.
