Gypsy19 (604), California, USA Jun 28, 2008 This is a very good Belgian ale in classic style. A very high-quality brew from America’s Hat. Pours a nice medium-dark brown, 2/5 of which is head, before settling down. Flavor of dark cherry, prune, wood, leather. Finishes very leathery and oily before slowly dissipating. Booze is evident, but not overly, about what 9/100 should taste like. I’d have again. Skyview (4007), Papoose Jct., Minnesota, USA Jun 28, 2008 Sampled during Cellar’s Wine & Spirits Wednesday evening tasting via Unibroue representative. Pours a hazy brownish amber brew with a heavy tan head that has some nice retention. Aroma of roasted caramel malt, dried figs, brown sugar, some dark berries, and yeast. Taste is medium to full bodied, some carbonation with flavors of chocolate, figs, yeast and brown sugar. Finish is quite sweet, some light metallic character with the high alcohol and a cherry and yeast aftertaste. This was one my favorites of the evening. KAF (441), Coralville, Iowa, USA Jun 26, 2008 Brown pour with a dirty white head. Sugary nose. Champagne mouth feel. Dark and light fruits in the taste. Allen (1289), Switzerland Jun 24, 2008 Updated: Nov 20, 2008Bottled 33cl. It pours a hazy dark brown beer with green!? reflects. Moderately tanned, nicely remaining tall head. Vitamin tablets, oranges and candy in the nose which is accompanied by a milky component. Some fudge and figs showing up too. An excellent aroma. Full bodied. Smooth mouthfeel. Vitamin tablets and exotic fruits in the taste. A hint of incense. A port-like characteristic showing up. Wonderfully spicy. Berries, fudge, lemon peel, coriander, cinnamon and thyme appearing. Wonderful finish with hints of oranges and lemon peel. Some bready hints sneaking in. Deeply complex, unique and enjoyable. ksurkin (356), Norfolk, Virginia, USA Jun 23, 2008 bottle from G&G poured into a snifter. pours a very dark burgandy with a thin white head. aroma is very pleasing. sweet smelling with hints of plum, grape, and red raspberry, and a touch of hops in the background. flavor is excellent. sweet and malty with plum, black currant, cherry, and vanilla. the aftertaste is slightly sweet and bitter and long lasting. mouthfeel is very refreshing and fizzy. very smooth and easy to drink with 9% abv hidden superbly. overall an excellent belgian strong. daknole (2810), Plantation, Florida, USA Jun 23, 2008 Another winning beer from Unibroue. Dar reddish pur wtih a a light beige head. Aroma is (surprise) yeasty. Flavor has yeast, malt and stone fruit. Smooth and creamy mouthfeel. Nice beer. mattmc1973 (301), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Jun 20, 2008 Large bottle, pours dark red/brown with frothy off-white head. Aroma initially of soapy yeast, but as beer stood at room temperature, it became more aromatic. Aroma became dark fruit and malt, with touch of yeast. Taste rich with dark fruit and sweet malt. Fizzy and rich mouthfeel, pretty good beer all in all! 12many (231), Ohio, USA Jun 17, 2008 Surprisingly almost zero light makes it through the glass. Large fizzy head disappears to a thin layer. Very sweet malts and fruits mix well with the carbonation. A little different but very good and drinkable.
