HyperlogiK (4), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada does not count Jun 2, 2008 Pours a dark hazy chestnut brown with a beige head. The aroma has a rich dried fruit sweetness without being overpowering or cloying.
The flavour is nothing short of spectacular, though it perhaps doesn’t pack quite the same deep flavour as say, Rochefort 10, it is actually better balanced. No single flavour dominates, the bitterness, alcohol, licorice, spices and dried fruit all working together perfectly. Because of this, it is flavourful enough to enjoy as a winter warmer whilst at the same time being suitable to drink in quantity with food. chinatown (1), USA does not count May 30, 2008 Fruity overtones were neglected by the pure fashion of beer.
A great and pure beer at birth, but, it became too simple. It became a concoction of materials.
It was tasty, fruity, indulgent. But, I didnt want it to be like that.
It was special, but it didnt want to be. and thats why I like it.
phishpond417 (1861), Madison, Wisconsin, USA May 29, 2008 In the first intial pour the head is an enormously tan colour that you think is going to attack you, so you take a step back. Cautiously, you bring your nose forward and smell the lively fruit that bounces around inside the glass. Once it settles a few minutes later, the colour of the beer is dark red or light chocolate. Lots of citrusyness, a very intense taste, with every sip I never got used to it. fredthecat (176), Canada May 28, 2008 Updated: Dec 15, 2008smells like spices when you open it and then a smell sort of like a wine. fruity tasting. a pleasant appearance with a unique colour and very creamy. i stopped drinking this regularly for a while i cant believe i did, its good value for the price considering each one is almost two 5 percent beers..
re-rate due to buying a pack that seems to be worse quality than when i had it before JAXSON (229), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 28, 2008 Deep chestnut with a ridiculously creamy head. Unibroue beers always have amazing, lush bubbles and mouthfeel. This one pretty much has to warm up a bit before being consumed, or else a trademark cardboard flavor will dominate. Prunes, malt, almost red-winey flavor. Still a little of that cardboard. A bit boozy, but still covers the 9% decently. marcbé (86), Trois-Rivières, Quebec, Canada May 27, 2008 Drak brown brew with thick tan head. Strong malt aroma followed by fruit: prunes (duke of), datte, raisin. Alcool, chocolate and winy taste. Quebec’s pride. GMCC2181 (845), Bear, Delaware, USA May 26, 2008 Bottle from Matt! Poured a light black color. Big head! Smells like sweet raisons. Smooth...and easy to drink. Quite good. Flavor is dried fruits such as raisons, cherries, etc... Mild Carbonation. Not a trace of that 9%! Over all a good brew! Thanks again Matt! markwise (1132), 15 Minutes from Kuhnhenn in, Florida, USA May 25, 2008 This delicious beer has an aroma of cherries, figs, plums, and deep fruit. The flavor delivers all that plus a ton of carbonation. It is very smooth and filling, I barely notice the alcohol presence. Nice beer, but between the intense flavor and the carbonation it is not a light and easy-drinking beer, but a filling and deeply flavorful beer.
