VitaminR (422), Colorado, USA May 20, 2008 Vinous cola nose, some spice and caramel notes. Dark brown to black color, bubbly head with quick dissipation. Spicy clovey burnt caramel sweetness, mild bitterness, more tartness, alcohol hits aggressively. Fizzy, surprisingly thinner easy mouth feel, finish is long with the alcohol burning through in a big way. Huge beer, has some really interesting spicy complexity, very different, would go fantastic with a steak. Jan Primus (160), Waterloo, Ontario, Canada May 18, 2008 Pours a dark, murky brown with generous head. Very fruity and spicey, perhaps a bit more bitterness and less sweet than Belgians of the same style...like Chimay Blue. MrChopin (621), Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA May 17, 2008 Deep brown with long-lasting beige head. Complex, endless nose of dominant raisin and plum coupled with a citric components (grapefruit and orange) and alcohol. The taste is a little simpler and displays more plum and raisin sweetness but it’s balanced with bitter malts and a dry, alcohol character. The palate is a little overkill (carbonated feel) for me, but this is still a great beer.
flatmatt (221), Northville, Michigan, USA May 15, 2008 Updated: Jun 19, 200812 oz bottle. Pours solid brown with medium tan head. Aroma is fruity, with aromas of apple and spice. Taste is of dark fruits, caramel, and malts. Carbonation is a little too fizzy for me, but the flavor is really nice. First Belgian ale I’ve really enjoyed (out of four so far, but hey, gotta start somewhere). blutt59 (2042), Dallas, Texas, USA May 15, 2008 bottle, fizzy head that disappears quickly, clove and spice nose, coca cola color with lots of malty caramel flavors, nicely carbonated finish zappafan99 (462), South Carolina, USA May 13, 2008 Ruddy color and a ruddy flavor. Fruity taste with no carbonation. Tasted and felt like the bottle was never corked. Don’t understand the score it has. Couldn’t force myself past half a glass. Will not buy again. MrBeerFanatic (344), jamestown, New York, USA May 12, 2008 Very cloudy brown pour with a beige head. A good belgian style fruit driven beer. Sweet in flavor with hints of spices oranges, raisins, and bananas. Decently balenced. Pretty good. SuperDave70 (1157), Beautiful Sunny Mesa, Arizona, USA May 11, 2008 Dark cloudy pour with a creamy off white head. Lots of malt and fruit in the aroma. Great flavor, with a nice alcohol bite on the finish. A very good brew.
