Derek881 (486), Frederick, Maryland, USA May 8, 2008 Updated: Oct 11, 2008Poured this wonderful brew from a large sized bottle into a trappist glass. The roasty aroma was mostly of dense fruits, some raisin and apricot, a touch of caramel, and maybe a touch of citrus. A very nice appearance, a cloudy dark brown color, almost black, with a very big, creamy, off-white head with good retention. Great, sweet and rich fruit taste, with a mix of bitterness and sourness for balance. Slightly thin on the palate, just a tad watery, but overall, a wonderfully fluid body with the alcohol well maintained; good cling inside the mouth. The beer cost $8, but was worth it, a masterful brew. Swalden28 (1439), McKinney, Texas, USA May 8, 2008 12 oz Bottle, $2.99 @ Kegs & Barrels in McKinney, TX.
Pours a Hazy dark ruby brown with frothy Beige head with nice retention. Aroma of raisons or dark fruit, notes of clove. Flavor dark fruit, slight roasted malt, clove, slight bannana, with excellent alcohol spice to compliment. Palate is full, medium carbonation. Nice!!!!! shalloWMeans (160), Independence, Kentucky, USA May 7, 2008 Updated: Aug 5, 2008What a treat. Sampled at 08’ Unibroue tasting. This one was the most anticipated by my girlfriend and I, both of us being fans of darker style ales. The appearance was STUNNING. Not bright, not black, directly in-between. A soft, beautiful reddish/brown, like light coffee or cola, and topped with a tannish white, whipped mousse looking head. Beautiful. The nose is presented with sweet aromas of anise, ginger, and sassafrass (similar to root beer), that complement one another very well. The taste is nicely bitter but well balanced, with toffee, cocoa, hints of raisins, dates, ginger, root beer, and roasted malt, all lingering long after the last sip, as well as a vanilla bean creaminess. Excellent. Interesting. vikasdesai (15), USA May 6, 2008 So smooth not filling, fruity aftertaste, deep brown in color, with a nice foam, Malty and fruity, not to sweet. very pleasant beer at the end of a truly crappy work day thehurt01 (201), Denver, Colorado, USA May 4, 2008 A 12 oz bottle with a best buy date. A super foamy head and a bark brown body. The smell is a fruit and malt. Taste is smooth and complex . A very good beer
6 pack. yespr (11613), Copenhagen O, Denmark May 4, 2008 33 cL bottle. Pours hazy deep brown with a slowly collapsing and light tan head. Mild spiced and yeasty aroma. Mild roasted malt flavour with a light sweetness. Followed by a fruity flavour and mixed with a light yeast notes. Light fruity flavour into the finish. carruthm (1109), Seattle, Washington, USA May 2, 2008 Updated: Feb 28, 2009Dark ruby red/blackish color with all assortments of fruits on the nose and an ever complex taste. Orange, spice, cinnamon, banana and raisins are all notable in the aroma which gives way to a little more malt in the taste. Often described as port-like for it’s deep flavors, this is perhaps the best line produced by Unibroue.
Caution: it rather stings if you get some in your eye. doppelmeup (51), Wake Forest, North Carolina, USA Apr 30, 2008 This was an exceptional beer. I don’t know if I have all the adjectives to describe the beer, other than to say it was delicious.
Very dark, ruby colored pour into an oversized wine glass. Nicely balanced aromas, followed by an exceptionally smooth taste. Extremely balanced.
Mouthfeel was like velvet. This went down very easily. I’d give it a 5 on drinkability except the ABV would limit how much you could drink in one sitting. Overall an exceptional beer.
