TheHulk (106), Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada Sep 20, 2009 I have a cold right now so all I can smell is the unibroue yeast, smells great as always. Very dark bronw, can only be seen through at the edges, not much dead retention. Tastes evenly of sweet fruit flavours and semi-dark malts, nothing too strong so as to nicely blend with the 9%. Very nice on the palate, smooth and prickly with an aftertaste of berries, sweet with just a bit of tartness. Tyler88 (3), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada does not count Sep 17, 2009 12 oz bottle. Interesting head that disappeared almost instantly, may have been a one-off. Mouthfeel also odd, almost feels like a rum and coke. Aroma has distinct notes of fruits, possibly apricots.Taste is obviously quite complex, and I would expect no less from a great brewer like Unibroue. Great beer. Alasdair (76), New Zealand Sep 15, 2009 Aroma of freshly baked raisin bread. Rich flavour of cinnamon, clove, dark fruit, with a tasty doughy yeastiness. Fratto (670), Arlington, Texas, USA Sep 14, 2009 Updated: Oct 21, 2009Taste was good, but was overwhelmed by bad aroma and piss-poor almost burning aftertaste. Seems to be consistent with other Unibroue beers I’ve had. 1 2 4 1 8 - 1.6
Re-rate since it’s been a few years. Nice dark pour. Smells like stale fruit. Decent grape, raisin, and citrus flavor. Terrible aftertaste. dnlsartin (68), Portland, Oregon, USA Sep 11, 2009 Updated: Sep 12, 2009Pours a dark ruby red. Aroma of cherry, honey, oak, and cloves. Red wine, brown sugar, balsamic, and raisins veil the high alcohol quite nicely. Beautiful character, warming, and drinkable. Cheese and crackers please. MattAddis (7), Portland, Oregon, USA does not count Sep 11, 2009 Beautifully dark with a nice greyish head. Deep, dark aroma reminiscent of cocoa and raisins. Hints of grapes on the first few sips and then the malt and alcohol come through to balance it out very nicely. Alcohol taste lingers a bit to keep you warm. Very nice beer. cfrancis (293), Gloucester, Ontario, Canada Sep 6, 2009 Sweet beer. Aroma is a stinging fruit that is sharp to the nostrils. Taste is fruit with an alcohol taste that isn’t a burning sensation with a lot of Quebec strong beers. Instead it’s a smooth bite of malt and alcohol. Such a nice beer to sit back sip and relax. petematte46 (212), Dallas, Texas, USA Sep 3, 2009 Pours an incredible purple/maroon color with a bubbly white/rose head. Strong flower nose with a bitter finish. Not bad
