possumjc (99), Charleston - Mt Pleasant, South Carolina, USA Apr 4, 2008 Bottle. Pours a dark brown, just slightly translucent with a hint a of red. Head was beige and dissipated quickly. The aroma has some hints of fruit and malt. The taste was not quite a fruity as I expected but still had some fruit flavor. The aftertaste had some alcohol in it. The carbonation was noticeable and the beer felt slightly thick. Very nice. sneagrams3 (1704), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Apr 3, 2008 Tasted 4/3/08. 330ml bottle. One of the ideal times when I used the actual proper glassware for this beer. Sedimented and bottle conditioned but most of the gunk stayed in the bottle. Hazy and murky brown hue with a touch of red. Quickly dissipating beige head. Aromas of raisins and plums. Toffee cocoa and vanilla. Bright fruity esters and a wet wood nose. Great complexity. Rather full bodied with that nice Unibroue yeast character. Tight effervesecence and sugary malts. Lively body with tingling lingering citrus and orange candy flavor. Rolling palate and cloying finish. Truly special! golubj (1275), Sunnyvale, California, USA Apr 1, 2008 Bottle. Muddy brown pour with an orange tint and beige head. Aroma of malty fruit (prunes), light roast, belgian-like spicing and yeast. Flavor of dark fruit and other lightly citric fruit, grassy and spicy yeastiness, candy sugar; overall sweet but balanced with spices and yeast. Nice palate, the same as other unibrous. Enjoyed this beer. rayg1 (433), Ft. Mill, South Carolina, USA Apr 1, 2008 I know I’ve had this before I guess I just didn’t rate it, thankfully Douglas sent me another bottle to try! First trade to Japan! Thanks man! The pour is beautiful with a deep and dark brown body and a light brown head, not too thick but very nice. A thin foamy head retains during the entire glass. Aroma is strong and very complex, man this stuff smells good. Dark fruits such as plum, black cherries, and dates fill the air. Add a touch of maple syrup, cinnamon, and nutmeg and sweet yeast to round out the finish of the bouquet. The taste is again very flavorful. Black cherries and plums mix with brown sugar and spices to add a very sweet but wonderful flavor on the tounge. The yeast is very noticable in this one but doesn’t take away from the beer at all, if any thing it adds character. Awesome stuff! wbdace (42), los angeles, California, USA Mar 31, 2008 750 ml bottle from Surfas in L.A.
Aroma of raisins and oak plus alcohol.
Pours dark brown with a light brown head that disappears rather quickly, very little lace. Medium body, roasted malt, light sweetness with bitter finish.
Except for appearance. which is not too important to me, a very good brew. Blom (390), Odense, Denmark Mar 31, 2008 The gothy label is cool and reminds me
of a Lovecraft, Poe or Stoker novel. The beer is DARK brown with a sweet and complex aroma of citrus, orange, chocolate and dark dried fruits. The flavour is bittersweet like liquorice and apricots. The carbonation however is a bit too aggressive. EricE (446), Fairfax, Virginia, USA Mar 30, 2008 THICK brown pour. Slightly clear with a tan head. Really great aroma. Lots of apples and other fruit with a little bit of alcohol. Some grain and malt. Very complex. I was a little underwhelmed by the flavor; still really good, I was expecting something amazing after the aroma. Slightly sweet wine like taste, but with lots of grain and yeast. Turns to a dry alcohol aftertaste. Some hints of molasses. Very good. gator2683 (133), Anchorage, Alaska, USA Mar 30, 2008 pours a thin black, with huge cream head. aroma of rich grapes and fruit. taste is predictable with grape and plum and a hint of spice. it has a crisp dry finish. I have had a couple beers like this now and it sits somewhere in the middle
