| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Sep 2, 2009 Bottle. Pours a very deep brown and large beige head. There is a mild sweetness and yeast to the nose. The flavor is most surprising - there is a lack of sweetness for the color. A nice bitterness of the yeast and spicy fruity notes. Surprising, and enjoyalble. williamherbert (466), Syracuse, New York, USA

The head starts out tall like a cooking pot soaking in soap bubbles, but dies down. Deep, dark brown. Dark rose-black in the light. Thick and mega-cloudy; opaque.
The smell is thick and grainy like a dark barleywine. Hints of dark grape. Heavy alcohol and port wine aroma. Almost like a red wine in the nose.
The taste is lots of port wine and grainy sour malt flavors. Puckery and tart. Heavy alcohol finish. Dark stone fruits; grape and plum. Belgian spices at the end when it warms up.
The feel is smooth and buttery but a little thick. Not at all gritty. Milky but smooth. It’s like a sour, ripe barleywine or strong ale. Tremendous to nurse for a long time. Great. JK54B (913), Helsinki, Finland

| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 26, 2009 Light, nutty aroma, moderate head. Tastes very dark fruity and nutty. The alcohol is masked so well in this one, I would never guess it was 9%. Very smooth, perfect level of carbonation. Can’t ask for much more in a beer. MrRoss (617), Delta, British Columbia, Canada

A nice mouth feel, and the taste was just first-rate. I’d have this one again anytime. And at 9%, it packs a bit of a kick. OleR (2030), Oslo, Norway

A dark ruby-brown beer with a dense, beige head on top. Delicate sweet fruit aroma; raisins, plums, oranges, tangerines... Also fresh-smelling yeast, sweet chocolate and sweet licorice. Taste has a refined sweetness; dark dried fruits and tinned fruit cocktail comes to mind. Also a rich maltiness, leaving flavors of caramel and sweet coffee. Light sparkling, Champagne-like mouthfeel. Almost full-bodied. Pleasant fruity finish. Excellent brew!
