COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

NIce pour, perfect head opaque dark anber. Wonderful scents here, plum cinnamon clove. Mouthfeel is perfect for easy drinking, thinner than expected. Tastes of slight plum and spice with a nice warming toasty roasted finish. Carbonation is just right, not too many bubbles. Very nice, Thanks Dave R.!

Bottle from a trade. A very dark mahoganey brown with a thick fast-dissipating head. A rich spicy malty beer aroma. The taste is fantastic dark pitted fruits, raisins, spice and malts. Sweetly complex without being cloying. Probably one of the best belgian ales I have had in awhile.

Aroma is ripe plums, yeast, some alcohol. Not as good or complex as I was expecting. Very nice looking dark reddish brown color. Off white head that shrinks quickly. More carbonated than I thought it would be. Tastes like a cross between a Belgian ale and a lager. Crisp because of the amount of carbonation. I am getting a cherry like taste and some other sweetness before the port wine aftertaste described on the bottle. Palate is good because of how unique it is. Heavily carbonated yet smooth. Overall I liked it, didn't love it. Probably won't buy again.

Sampled at Northgate Tasting. I must be missing something with this renowed Belgian Strong. Tasted with La Fin and Terrible, and this was my least favorite.

12oz bottle poured into a tulip glass..dark cherry pour with thin white head..aroma of dark fruits,malts,raisins..very dry, malty, sweet taste..more like a wine than a beer..not my thing.

Shared bomber. Watery brown appearance. Ripe dark fruit nose, but not prominent on the palate. Dull carbonation makes for a surprisingly light palate. High ABV cloaked. Okay, but may be better with a meal.

Dark ruby red in color emitting a sweet fruity aroma. Highly carbonated to style which accentuates its beautiful sweet, dark ripe fruit taste. Reminiscent of raisin, fig and black cherry with a hint of vanilla

Bottle. Pours a dark copper color with a thin layer of beige head. Aroma of yeast, dark fruits, and spices. Taste of raisins, yeast, and spice.

"hides the 9% abv very well. fruity and yeasty aroma, same in the flavor with some maltiness as well. not as harsh as maudite, and therefore better. looks great, smells ok, and tasted good, if not great. the body is nice, and like i said, it hides the alcohol well, but the carbonation is still too heavy for me..."

330ml bottld poured in a Chalice. A: Pours a nice dark brown bit cloudy color and a huge fluffy beige head when poured. Retention is quite good. It never disappears totally leaving some lacings S: Sweet, spicy and a bit fruity in the nose. Toffee, caramel malts, earthy yeasts and coriander. Dry raisins, hops and a bit of alcohol in the end T: Full of taste. Quite pleasant. Fruity and sweet upfront. Reminds dark dry fruits. Port wine. Spicy. There’s something in this beer that gives a quite refreshing sensation in the mouth, I would guess coriander. Earthy yeasts and a delicate hoppy bitterness. A warmy beer M: Medium creamy and molasses body. Reasonable carbonation O: Extremely drinkable beer. Dispite of the Belgian influence, the Canadians of Unibroue were able to do it their own way. Unibroue beer have personality and are well done [ BA Review @ 12/20/2009 ]
