COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Strong Belgian type ale similar to a Port wine ! Is as dark as can be, mellow in taste with an aroma of ripe fruits. It can be compared to an old porto and is brewed from well roasted malt.

Color is dark brown. Aroma is sour, very ripe tropical fruit, sweet sugar. Taste is cherries, really ripe banana, some lemon and yeasty sourness backed. Quite sweet once it warms up a bit (and you should let it warm up - it improves dramatically). Booze is apparent and warming, but not overwhelming. Not a style I am a big fan of, but itís obvious this is a very high quality brew.

Pours a dark brown nearly black color, with a nice light tan head. Very Cool bottle. Aroma is like dark fruits, dark malt. Taste is impressive, dark malty, with hints of said fruit, yet balanced and very good. Very drinkable no bitterness or harshness. Some light alcohol taste, not enough to be overpowering, it does let you know its there! Over all excellent beer!!

12 oz bottle poured into sensory glass. Pours a dark brown with purplish red undertones. A medium tan head appears which subsides after a couple of minutes to a thin veil, sparse lacing. Smell is pungent dark fruits up front - plums, cherries and raisins, mainly. The alcohol is also apparent, with some chocolate and a bit of an herbal quality. Taste is exactly what you expect from the aroma. Lots of sweet, dark fruits up front, with a touch of chocolate and alcohol spiciness. Under that initial blast, you can taste some hops, which help to balance the sweetness of the beer and it does a good job. Reminded of dark chocolate on top of tart, dark cherries. This ends up being dry on the finish, despite the sweet smell and initial flavors. Very easy drinking for a strong dark. Mouthfeel is smooth and bubbly. Overall, an excellent strong dark Belgian ale. Way too easy going down at 9%.

drink cold (10įC). Eye: strong dark brown/black beer with beige, almost brown head. nice bottle with the typpic Unibroue bottleneck aluminium wrapping. Nose: you can smell the yeast. chocolate, dark fruits. slight sidenotes of mushrooms or some sort of sweet soap, alcohol too. Mouth: chocolate, dark fruits such as blackcurrant, plums and raisins, also oriental fruit like figs and dates. very round and butterlike when it runs down. Overall: reminds me of the great rochefort 10į, but nit just as balanced. iíll definitely drink this one again. one of my favourites.

Poured from bottle into a tulip: Pours dark brown with a redish hue, small head that dissipates quickly leaving behind a fine lace. Aroma of dark fruits, currants, bread, belgian yeast / banana funk, and caramel. Taste is banana, cherries, other fruits, a little funk, slight alcohol, and grass. Medium to heavy body, light carbonation. This is an interesting beer with a lot of complexity. Strong but not overly boozy, with a slight bite at the end to balance out the strong flavors. Pretty damn good.

Refined beer. Pleasant blend of caramel malts with Belgian yeast. Some hints of spice. Soft burnt caramel color with a good head. Full palate without being too heavy. Complimenting carbonation. Alcohol was present but not distracting. Strong bready malt flavors with some sweetness with toast and spice from the yeast. A little molasses as well. Quite good.

Pours a very dark red/amber colour with some head thatís thick but dissipates. Aroma is lots of caramel and some belgian sweetness. Taste is full bodied and well carbonized. Generally on the sweet side but more of the caramel comes through with practically none of the high alcohol content. Aftertaste is nice and round with some hints of candy/bubblegum. No real bitterness but no real sweetness either. Very balanced all the way through. Extremely drinkable!

Bottle bought at the Beerstore in Hamilton/Canada picked by my good friend and craft beer geek Erik. Iím a European on vacation in Canada and well know all the Belgian ales available in stores, so he wanted to pick a Canadian belgian style ale for me to taste. Overall a tasty beer, not so mind blowing like Westmale but stil good.
